I was giving my 8y male water using a glass dropper. Usually when I give him a drink with a syringe or dropper he's never aggressive. After several droppers of water he snapped at it and bit a small pice(~ .12") of the tip off. Unfortunately he ate it before I could get his mouth open. I called the vet hospital immediately and was told there was nothing they could do right now and that they would only hold him for observation unless there were any signs of an issue. Is there anything I can give him that may improve his chances of passing it without any complications?

My female, of the same age, just passed away a couple months ago from egg peritonitis so I am very nervous :?

I wish I knew how to help. I'll give this a bump to see if others may know. I can imagine how upset you must be. I'm sorry to hear that your girl crossed over.

You can give him olive oil to try to get him to pass it. You can just mix it with baby food. You don't need a lot of it maybe a teaspoon or less. I sure hope he will be okay. My beardie ate a metal washer and I had to take him to the Vet. They ended up pulling in out of is rear end. I would think that he should be able to pass a small piece of plastic by himself. If he doesn't poop within the next 2-3 days after giving him the oil I would call the Vet back. I hope this helps!

I believe your dragon will need vet assistance as soon as possible....like yesterday! If your vet will not take this serious and is putting you off until there is an issue, :banghead: finding one who will take this serious is of life and death importance. Glass, no matter how small can slice the intestines multiple places as it passes thru causing perforations and leakage of waste into the abdominal cavity, especially in such a tiny animal as a bearded dragon. This causes peritonitis and subsequent death. By the time an "ISSUE" is noticed it may be to late to help. :banghead: I don't want to scare or alarm you but this is the case. Broken glass of any kind in the intestines is a major emergency just as it would be in a human! Your vet is a jackass! :angry5: :banghead:

When the incident happened I called his normal vet but they were closed, the vet I spoke with was who they said to contact in case of an emergency. I don't have any olive oil in the house, we cook with coconut oil now or I would try giving him some until I can get in touch with his regular vet. I'll call again in the morning and try to get a hold of his regular vet who is supposed to be the best reptile expert in the area. Hopefully I can get him in right away, better safe than sorry. Thanks

Oh my gosh I didn't even see that it was glass I thought when I read it that you wrote it was plastic. I wouldn't even bother with the olive oil then because like Amanda said it cut him on the inside, and it probably is better staying where it is at instead of moving around and causing more damage. Yes get him to a vet ASAP! I am so sorry that I misread your post. I wish you and your beardie the best of luck!!! Keep us posted please!!!

I spoke to his normal vet office today and was told the size of the piece he ate should pass through him easily but to keep a close eye on him. They also suggested a small amount of creamy peanut butter to help him pass it. Going to keep my fingers crossed and give him a couple baths and plenty of fluids from a PLASTIC dropper.

There was nothing I could do to help Mel when she passed a couple months ago, it would be hard to loose them both in such a short period of time after having them the past 7-8 years.

Yes, it is hard to loose two in a two month period. We lost our first two in that period, but then they were best friends and talked with each other all the time. We still miss them after about 5.5 years.

I'm so sorry you lost your Mel. You obviously took great care for them to reach that age!

I'm still very concerned for your dragon after just reading the advise your regular vet gave.
I still believe I made the right call about the vet being a jackass! I am so hoping I am as wrong
as wrong can be! I'm just wondering how a broken, jagged piece of glass is small enough to
be ok to pass thru soft tissue intestines without cutting, peanut butter or not! OMG, what size
broken glass is your vet comfortable with passing safely thru soft tissue? Ground glass is even
smaller yet is emergency if ingested. I'm so sorry but I'm a nurse and that just doesn't even
make any sense to me at all! I want to be wrong!....so very wrong!
I will be saying a prayer for your little guy and hoping the glass is the "right" size!

Yea I don't know how comfortable with that response I am either, but I'm keeping a close eye on him hoping for the best. So far he's been pretty active. Gave him a bath yesterday and today, fed him about a half teaspoon of creamy peanut butter, and some water. So far no bowl movement.

Here's a pic of the glass that was bitten off. It happened so fast I'm assuming it's in one piece. If that's the case one end will be perfectly smooth and the other a little jagged.

That looks like a big piece of glass for a small lizard. I hope that it goes down straight and doesn't turn sideways. Just keep a very close Eye on him. I have been thinking about you and your beardie all day because I know how I was when my beardie ate the metal washer. I hope every thing comes out smoothly. :)

Try giving him apple sauce, and you can even mix in a couple drops of olive or mineral oil. I swear by it, i give mine all natural sugar free and she will willingly take a few cc's and it works every time never more than 24 hours later. If you havent already tried, it cant hurt to, and she may like it :)

Oh gosh how scary!!!!! they are tough little ones though and we will hope for good results! My brother's dog ate a tic tac case and had to have the lid removed and the rest came out in pieces, sharp broken pieces and she was good to go! Sometimes they are tougher inside than humans so lets hope so!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
