Hi Guys,
I lost Ziva a few months back to what was most likely adenovirus going off her pathology results. (No cross contamination between her and Spitfire. I have strict protocols)

So I sent Tracie the test for Spitfire and it came back positive.(I am talking with her about disinfection and what to do when it’s time to say good by to Spitfire but hopefully that’s years from now)

Not a huge surprise considering she is an adoption from Petsmart and they get their dragons from Sandfire (at least this location does) and the fact she was stargazing as a baby and not eating on her own. I lost a lot of sleep giving her supportive care for over two weeks before she was eating me out of house and home.

So I want to ask; as I only got to see what this virus can do right before the end of a dragons life, what am I to expect?

What do I need to look out for? Do I need to do anything different? What’s it like living with a dragon who’s positive? (She’s only 7-8 months old By the way)

I just can’t have what happened with Ziva happen to Spitfire, so I’d really enjoy any advice or anything really on what’s to come or what to expect.

I only had three years with Ziva (again rescue with unknown history.) and I’d love longer time with Spitfire than that.

Photo of Spitfire after some strawberries as a bribe to wear the dragon wings. (Yes she’s in a fully bioactive enclosure, and yes she has correct lighting/heating/ etc. I’m a tech with an interest in exotics so my babies get the best care possible)

Hi there, I'm so sorry about Ziva and now Spitfire being ADV positive. I don't know how much help this will be but every dragon is different, even ones with ADV. From what I've read on here they can be pretty healthy for a long time, then suddenly decline which also happens in dragons without the virus. Others seem to yo yo up and down with health problems but still live a few years more than expected. Some may develop organ damage or neurological problems and go downhill quickly. Hopefully Spitfire will live up to her name. And since you're in contact with Tracie she knows the best supplemental treatment for this disease. I know you'll take great care of her , best wishes for the best life possible for Spitfire !

Hey AHBD,
Yeah as of right now she’s living up to her name. At least right now she’s finally no longer launching herself at me trying to murder my hands.

She’s still eating me out of house and home and quickly gaining in size. She’s slowed down a bit growth wise, I’m really hoping it’s normal. It’s been so long since I’ve raised one since a hatchling!

I’m hoping I get longer than three years with her. That’s all I got with Ziva sadly. She ended up with the organ damage.

Thanks for your reply! I’m trying to make sure I know what to look out for. I don’t want what happened to Ziva in her last 48 hours with me happen with Spits

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
