A few newb questions about babies.

Hi guys, this may be silly to ask, but are baby dragons born smooth and get their bumps and such later? I was at a petsmart earlier wanting to buy one and I specifically don't want a leatherback. Their babies were very smooth to the touch and the lady that works the reptile section told me that they aren't leatherbacks and won't be smooth when they get older. I've never read that anywhere and wanted to double check before I got them.

She also said to get two so they could keep each other company. That it'd be ok if they were raised together. But from the research I've been doing, that isn't true; is it? I'm planning on buying the largest tank they sell and setting it up before I get them. It's at least 50 gallons. If that makes a difference.

Lastly, I know you have to feed them small crickets when they are young. But how do I get small ones? All petsmart has are adults.

Been reading :study: as much as I can about bearded dragons before I get one so I can do right by the little guy/gal. But there are a few things I don't know yet.

Hi Suzanne....baby leatherbacks look smooth right from hatching, normal scaled babies will have rougher scales right out of the egg. [ I've bred both ]

Housing babies together is not a good idea because they go their separate ways in nature and are really solitary. Sometimes they get along but most of the time there will be at least some fighting [ especially over food ] but they will bite at one another's tails + toes even if they are well fed. Whenever you see a beardie with a missing foot or tail tip it's from another beardie biting it.

Small crickets may be found at another pet store, but you are much better off ordering in bulk [ and some companies sell other feeder insects to add variety ] like lindasgonebuggy, Ghann's crickets, Armstrong crickets, Hungry Lizard and rainbow mealworms and crickets.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
