A Dragon In The Snake Den

My precious sweet babu arrived today and has me wrapped around his tiny tiny tail!

First look at the little guy (his first look at me too, LOL!)

He drank some water from a squirt bottle and ate about seven dubia just a few hours after arriving. He's the most adorable little thing and even if he's a bit shy now we are going to be best friends and have wonderful adventures together. <3

My sweet babu is almost seven weeks old. He is a sunburst tangerine hypo according to his hatch certificate. He was hatched April 28 and his parents are Dheyy and Knyte from Rio Reptiles, so he's got some serious good color coming to him as he matures. I'm so excited to see him grow and develop.

I have a million names in mind but I can't decide on one yet. I love Cheryl's naming scheme of using a "y" and some possibilities I've thought of are Veyron, Soveryn, Royal, Phoenyx, Drayden, Tornado and Skywalker. But I feel like I haven't "hit" on the right one.

He is such a stunner, and what a character, too. His colour will continue changing, it'll be great to see what he ends up like as an adult.

He is gorgeous! I love the red! As much as I want to know what color mine will end up being (right now she's orange and dull citrus color) I'm excited to see how her color changes! Its like a surprise!

I took the kid outside for some full sun, and happened to have my DSLR handy.

I have never seen him this bright! I guess he liked the sunshine? I need some 8)

I noticed his skin looks a little wrinkled here but I think it's because he was pushing up with his forearms and turning to the side. Just in case I gave him some extra water when he came in.

But I just...he's like a chameleon. Sheesh!

He is really super friendly too, he runs up my shoulder any time he gets a grip on my hand. :lol: He will just hang out on my shoulder or neck, completely content, as long as I will let him. I will have to keep his claws trimmed when he's grown or I'm going to be covered in scratches from him scooting himself up my arms.

I've had my baby for a little over two months now, and I'm so happy to have him! It is a challenge but a fun challenge trying to raise him up to be a healthy, well-adjusted dragon. I'm always trying to read everything I can to make sure I'm doing it right, and learning what he likes and doesn't like. He is not the most outgoing dragon, though I hope to work with him on that, but he does seem to have a little bit of a bond going with me. Sometimes I just sprawl on my bed and watch him, watching me, LOL! He doesn't glass dance and he doesn't wave. But I have a feeling though that he will be a head-bobbing MACHINE as an adult! He seems like the strong and silent type, haha. I think he has a dominant personality and is usually pretty calm. I have only ever seen him freak out twice and both times were because I'd moved my hand over his head and startled him (so I've learned to be more careful).

I know he will continue to change in looks and personality as he grows up and gets out of the "everything wants to eat me" stage, but I just had to say I can't imagine life without a beardie. When I got into reptiles six years ago, I really wanted a dragon but knew I just didn't have the experience to really get the husbandry right. Then I put it off because the timing just didn't seem right. But now I can't imagine not having him, I hate to say it but he's become my favorite reptile out of my snakes and lizards. He's so alert and interactive. A beardie is really the perfect reptile for me, and he brings me so much happiness. Yet I am so glad I waited until I knew enough about reptiles to be able to raise him right from the start. I want him to have nothing but the best care to grow to his full potential and live a long and happy life with me.

Sorry for getting mushy, I just love him to pieces!

Well, everything is going great here, Iroh continues to eat like a black hole. I'm in the process of adding some more snakes to my little scaled family. And next week is my long-awaited vacation!

Just a quick photo of my baby. He is 17.5 weeks old and a massive 15 inches, 146 grams! If I didn't know his exact hatch date and lineage I wouldn't believe how big he is.

And of course he continues shedding constantly, his tail shed out, now his legs and head are shedding, next his body will shed.

Iroh is coming with me to Petsmart tonight to buy a harness and leash. I forgot to buy a good dragon harness in time to have it shipped, so I'll have to make do with a ferret or kitten harness just for this trip. It'll be good to get him out and about for a while too.

I know you wouldn't give up Thresh for anything! XD I wouldn't give him up either.

Everything's been slow, Iroh seems to have slowed down on getting longer and instead has started putting on more weight. I think he goes in stages, getting longer...getting heavier...getting longer...getting heavier, LOL. I haven't done his check-in but he's well over 200 grams and I suspect nearing the 16 inch mark, at five months old.

He has been a little cranky lately, but I think it's because he's been in a full body shed. Poor guy is ALWAYS in shed, he just got all the shed off his belly and back and now his tail is going again. But he is eating great, he does well on his salad and is chowing down on medium dubia.

We're having some very nice weather and I hope to get him outside for a while soon, I've just been busy with other stuff lately.

Unfortunately my camera on my phone stopped working, so it's harder now to get any pictures.
