40 gallon breeder vs 55 gallon tank

As I was doing research on bearded dragons, I have come across a wide array of information on the appropriate tank size. From what I can gather 40 gallons (36×18×17in) is probably the minumum you want to keep one adult in. I found a good deal on a 55 gallon on Craigslist but the dimensions for that is 48×13×21. I know it is longer and a dragon may enjoy that better, but I am concerned about the width. So, comparing the two tanks with the presented facts, could someone inform me on which tank mat be more suited for an adult beardie?

55 gallon tanks generally aren't recommended because they are pretty narrow. If it's a choice between the two, you'll be better off with the 40 gallon breeder. Adults can live in a 40 gal breeder just fine. You could also use a 75 gallon if you want more space, those turn up on Craigslist sometimes. If, however, you are able to build/purchase a custom enclosure, a 48x24x18 or 24 is a size that a lot of people use. I personally just bought a 48x24x16 but I wish I went a little taller.

Yeah I figured the 55 gallon would be too narrow but there is so much conflicting information it is hard to determine what's right. I've been looking for plans for a custom enclosure too. Do you have any good information on how to build one?

This is a popular one that I've read a lot of people have good success with. It's 4x2x2 but I'm sure you could customize the size as needed.

That's the only link I have, though. I'm not handy at all, so I haven't looked into many others. I bought my custom at a reptile expo.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
