2010 Bearded Dragon Calendar image submissions!

The deadline for the 2010 Calendar submissions is 11:59pm on Saturday, October 31, 2009

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE MESSAGE CAREFULLY. There is a shorter window for submissions this year, as I got this post up later than usual. In order to make my life a little easier while doing this and not risk having your pictures missed by me, please follow the info about the email and submissions PRECISELY. I want the subject message EXACTLY as I specify below. I want the text information formatted EXACTLY as I specify below. Please don't reword the information. Please don't get creative with the subject. I have email filters to help manage this, and will have to go through nearly 200 or more messages. Cut and paste and then editing to substitute your specific info would be ideal. Do not send more than two images per beardie!

Again, the deadline for the 2010 Calendar submissions is 11:59pm on Saturday, October 31, 2009

Yes, of course we're doing another Calendar. And yes, I will do as I have the last 5 years, and try to include one image of every beardie sent to me (providing this year doesn't result in a serious flood of images). I will leave it to my own discretion as to which images are used, which will get a "larger" position, and which will get smaller images.

Want to see your beardie inside the 2010 Bearded Dragon calendar? Well, get those images sent in!!!
Please submit images EARLY if you have them

What you need to do
1. Find or take the best pictures of your beardie(s) you can. When deciding which ones are the best, please look for the following qualities:
- Sharpness: Make sure the bearded dragon is in focus and sharp
- Composure: Look for an image or shot that has an overall aesthetic look, a nice background, good lighting quality, not too "messy", etc.
- Size/Resolution: Set your cameras for the absolute highest resolution that they will take. Only the highest quality images will be considered for full page use. Lower resolution images will still be used if possible, but only in smaller form (see samples below for what the smaller ones are like on a page).

When sending in your pictures, please send in a copy of the ORIGINAL. I want the maximum resolution possible. If you email from your photo program, please make sure it isn't resizing it "for email". Additionally, images should not have been digitally modified (including resizing to make "larger"). If an image needs improvement, please let me worry about doing that. No designs, text, etc. are to be added to the images prior to sending them to me.

2. Email the picture(s) to me at [email protected] with the following block of text in the body of the message (substituting your info in):
Name: YOUR NAME
Username: YOUR USERNAME ON BD.ORG
Beardie Name: NAME OF EACH BEARDIE (Please indicate which is which [i.e. left, right, above, below, etc.])

The Subject should be: 2010 Calendar image submission

DO NOT FORGET THIS INFORMATION IN THE ABOVE FORMAT

LIMIT TWO PICTURES PER BEARDED DRAGON. This means, if you have 2 beardies please send no more than 4 pictures for consideration.

Notes / Tips
- In order to even be considered for a full page layout, the image must be at least 2200x1800.

- If you have them, include images that are at least 3000x2400... this is the minimum resolution to be considered for the main cover.

- If you have images at this higher resolution, please include them. If we have enough of the higher resolution images, we may be able to offer the larger 17"x11" wall calendar as well as the regular 11"x8.5".

Again, if you have questions, please feel free to reply here. I will be watching the thread for replies.

Please note that all images that are submitted must be free of any copyright restrictions. By submitting an image, you authorize it to be used royalty-free for any Beardie Stuff Store products. Profits from Beardie Stuff products contribute to keeping this site up and running for all. You assume any and all responsibility for any legal repercussions related to the material that you submit, that you did not own, or have the right to submit.

Below are some screenshots a previous Calendars just to give you an idea of what I did with the pictures that were submitted:

And here are some of the previews from last year's calendars. We actually had two, because we had so many bearded dragons submitted (and I kept my promise to include one of every one submitted).

After submission, this is how things will go and how you get your calendar!
- I go to work
I will process through all the images and create preview images, and the draft copies of the calendars.

- I will post previews
This is so people can check for correctness. I will make a global post, like this one to bring attention to it, and will reply here for anyone "watching" or subscribed to this topic (see bottom left of the page if you want to subscribe and see replies). I will probably leave 1 week for people to see the post for "corrections" being requested. Of course, if a last minute correction is needed, I will try to do so before you order yours. Other people may have the wrong name for your beardie, but at least YOU will have one with the right names. :) Following the instructions above closely will help.

- I will finalize the calendars on the Beardie Stuff Store
They will be available for purchase on the Beardie Stuff Store. I have to double check, but I believe pricing works out to be about $20. I need to verify if CafePress has changed their base prices this year or not, but expect pricing to be about that. I will also make a global post to let everyone know, and will post about it on the main home page of the site!

Everyone please note that due to my own lag on getting this started sooner, we're on a tight crunch. Normally I allow 6-7 weeks for submission period. This time we have just over 4 weeks. I will start to work on the sorting of pictures and some of the layout once I have a decent number of images, so please submit them early if you can!

Thanks!

BeardedDad: Yup! CafePress (who I used for the online "store") ships pretty much anywhere. Shipping is obviously a little more than it is for the US, but we've had many orders in the past sent to Australia, South Africa, Europe, etc. :)

Woop! I'm glad I read this on a sunny day.... I can get nice outdoors pics of the girls! :blob8:

I just wish I'd had Reggie when the '09 calendar submissions were going on.... it would've been nice to see him in a calendar, and he was always a big poser for the camera.

MUST GO TAKE PICS! :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:

Those all look usable. Be care of images that are cropped in too closely (like the first one), as it makes it a bit more limiting for what I can do with it (many images I need to re-crop square). Also, please note the rules about only 2 images to be submitted per bearded dragon.

Thanks!

Another thing I want to mention...

PLEAS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure that you are sending me the full resolution image. Make sure your photo or email program is NOT, repeat NOT, resizing the pictures "for email". If it doesn't take you a about 10 times longer for that one email to send than regular emails, it's likely the images were resized. You can verify what has been sent, but taking a look at your email in your Sent folder. That's usually an exact copy of what was sent to me.

The attached images should be more than 1 MB (in most cases). With most cameras today, images are taken at 3-6 Mpx, and many are standardly 8 or 10 now. Of course, many people set their cameras to take smaller pictures, so they can fit more on their card. I recommend that if you are taking pictures just for the calendar, first set the size and quality to their maximum in the camera settings. It is not uncommon for me to get images that are 2-5 MB in size (sometimes higher, but not often), so don't worry about sending me files that are too big. My email can handle it.

While not required, it also does help to send one email per dragon (especially if you have 3-4 dragons... some email providers don't let you send emails over a certain size). Of course, some people have pictures with their beardies together. In that case, just let me know who's who. :)

Keep those images coming!!!

I was wondering if we could send in pics of our departed dragons, as well as our current masters. If so, would it be possible to have them indicated (R.I.P 2001-2003). I would love to see pics of our many lost members' babies, as well as my own.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
