2009 Bearded Dragon Calendar image submissions!

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE MESSAGE CAREFULLY. In order to make my life a little easier while doing this and not risk having your pictures missed by me, please follow the info about the email and submissions precisely. I want the subject message EXACTLY as I specify below. I want the text information formatted EXACTLY as I specify below. Please don't reword the information. Please don't get creative with the subject. I have email filters to help manage this, and will have to go through nearly 200 or more messages. Cut and paste and then editing to substitute your specific info would be ideal. Do not send more than two images per beardie!

The deadline for the 2009 Calendar submissions is 11:59pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Yes, of course we're doing another Calendar. And yes, I will do as I have the last 4 years, and try to include one image of every beardie sent to me (providing this year doesn't result in a serious flood of images). I will leave it to my own discretion as to which images are used, which will get a "larger" position, and which will get smaller images.

Want to see your beardie inside the 2009 Bearded Dragon calendar? Well, get those images sent in!!!
Please submit images EARLY if you have them

What you need to do
1. Find or take the best pictures of your beardie(s) you can. When deciding which ones are the best, please look for the following qualities:
- Sharpness: Make sure the bearded dragon is in focus and sharp
- Composure: Look for an image or shot that has an overall aesthetic look, a nice background, good lighting quality, etc.
- Size/Resolution: Set your cameras for the absolute highest resolution that they will take. Only the highest quality images will be considered for full page use. Lower resolution images will still be used if possible, but only in smaller form (see samples below for what the smaller ones are like on a page).

When sending in your pictures, please send in a copy of the ORIGINAL. I want the maximum resolution possible. If you email from your photo program, please make sure it isn't resizing it "for email". Additionally, images should not have been digitally modified (including resizing to make "larger"). If an image needs improvement, please let me worry about doing that. No designs, text, etc. is to be added to the images prior to sending them to me.

2. Email the picture(s) to me at [email protected] with the following block of text in the body of the message (substituting your info in):
Name: YOUR NAME
Username: YOUR USERNAME ON BD.ORG
Beardie Name: NAME OF EACH BEARDIE (Please indicate which is which)

The Subject should be: 2009 Calendar image submission

DO NOT FORGET THIS INFORMATION IN THE ABOVE FORMAT

LIMIT TWO PICTURES PER BEARDED DRAGON. This means, if you have 2 beardies please send no more than 4 pictures for consideration.

Notes / Tips
- In order to even be considered for a full page layout, the image must be at least 2200x1800.

- If you have them, include images that are at least 3000x2400... this is the minimum resolution to be considered for the main cover.

- If you have images at this higher resolution, please include them. If we have enough of the higher resolution images, we may be able to offer the larger 17"x11" wall calendar as well as the regular 11"x8.5".

Again, if you have questions, please feel free to reply here. I will be watching the thread for replies.

Please note that all images that are submitted must be free of any copyright restrictions. By submitting an image, you authorize it to be used royalty-free for any Beardie Stuff Store products. ooh, this sounds fun. i have a couple questions though reguarding image standards:

will dragons with obvious nips and stumps have a shot at making the calender? all 3 of my dragons have digits or limbs missing. i was just wondering if i should bother submitting my images or if they would just be more clutter to sort through.

will pictures taken through glass be disqualified? i have plenty of little L.G. outside because i have no fear of him running off, but i have taken many pics of my other rescues through glass. should i stop trying to take "in-the-viv" pics and focus on shots of them outside?

thanks for starting this site alex! i dont know what would have become of my little LG had i not stumbled upon beardeddragon.org  .

Absolutely! I really do try to include at least one image of every beardie sent to me. No, pictures taken through glass are okay, as long as the image doesn't look ruined because of it. It may not have as likely a chance of getting a full page spread (unless it's not even noticeable), but would easily qualify for the smaller images throughout the calendar. It's hard to advise on whether in-viv or outside would be better. But usually (not always), shots outside the viv have proven more "interesting" visually... but that is more a concern when I think about pictures to use for the larger spreads. Smaller images I'm less picky about.

If you look through the calendar examples, you might pick up a little bit of a sense of how I "look" at it.

My boy has a protruding jaw, probably from MBD when he was a baby...would he still qualify to be in the calendar? I'd love to see one of my babies become "famous"!

Most certainly. I don't discriminate against handicapped or injured beardies. :) If you have a beardie, I'd love to try and work them into the calendar!

That time of the year again, time fly's. Look forward to hopefully seeing Buffy in the 2009 one. Will send them in asap (when its not raining here  )
Enjoyed last years, good job.

If we wish to submit photos for consideration for the full page spread, is there a margin limitation? That is, should we make sure that there's at least an inch border around that doesn't include the beardie?

Ya know... I do run into that in the past, and I never thought to set a requirement. I do sometimes have to deal with cutting SOME of the picture off because of the dimensions being different than the calendar. But in some cases, I think it's great when a beardie is even right up against the edge of a page.

So, I won't set a "limit", but do take into account how your picture would look. Also, I do like "space" (Gina: How's that for a funny choice of words... hehehe... for all else, inside joke.) on the image. I fill that space with the smaller images, and it's the only way I manage to squeeze in as many as I do. :)

Thanks for the question though. It's definitely good for people to think about.

:laughing6: Perfect choice of words.

May I send you a photo to determine whether it has enough "space"? ( :laughing6: )

Maybe a silly question - but should I send pics of both my beardies in one email or 2 separate emails.....

Either way is fine. Just be clear which dragon is which in the email. But sending separate emails might help keep it more clear.

Thanks,

Hi Alex, I'm not sure about what size you're talking about, so sent you the email as you requested. I'm just hoping the size of the picture is what you wanted. I've just really learned how to send an email with a picture. Hope it's ok. :D

Hi Beardie

Quick couple of questions on the calendar itself.
When will it be ready?
How do we get a copy and whats the cost?
Thanks
Scott
