Hi everyone -

I picked up my first bearded dragon yesterday. I have admired them at stores for a number of years. Yesterday my daughter and I went down to the local reptile shop and picked up this girl. My daughter fell in love immediately.

I have a couple of questions though. I have seen many types of dragons - can you identify this one? Also, she isn't eating any greens. In fact she ate a ton of crickets yesterday but none today - maybe getting used to her new home? Any other beginners advice is welcome!

I'm looking for a male to keep her company so if you see something that would match up please let me know!

Thanks,

Joe

Im not sure what morph she is but she looks great. I would stongly advise agaisnt keeping beardies together, many bad things can happen - just search the posts. As for the salad, some arnet vegie eaters as much as others, it could be relocation stress ect, ect. Just keep offering them and also supply water - they get most of their water from vegetation.
Good Luck - Gulum

Point taken on housing two together. Strange - the store AND a book I bought both said the opposite. Guess I'll throw that in the trash and get my info from here.

Maybe the other poster should have elaborated a little more. You CAN keep two beardies together, but they would have to be very close in size b/c if one is bigger than the other, the smaller of the two may end up w/ some injuries and things of that nature. I would love to give you advice, but I am fairly new at this myself. I just read up on these lil guys quite a bit before I made a commitment towards getting one.

One last thing...is that some sort of sand in your beardies tank? I'm asking b/c from what I've read when they are babies/juveniles, they can become impacted from the sand b/c they can ingest it while eating their food. I have read on these forums to use terrarium carpeting, tiles etc..(at least until your beardie reaches adult hood..)

Anyway, good luck w/ your new family member...

Yeah, it is the wood chip stuff the store recommended. I did read that it should not be used and I will be pulling it out this week to put in tile. Thanks though.

your welcome... I use that repti carpet, but what I was thinking of doing was to cut it up in 8 inch increments(length wise) since i have a 36" L tank, so that I can just pull a strip out that needs to be cleaned (or replaced). I think this would work out better since I wouldn't have to relocate my Beardie to AT LEAST clean his/her floor... :)

Even if the BD's are close in size so many things can go wrong. They might not share the basking well - leads to a problem. They may become dominant, no matter what size - leads to a problem. The only recommended time to put them together is for breeding - together to long or young, overbreeding - leads to a problem. Is that elaborated enough, read some of these stories on this website alone. A male lost his reproductive organs and most of his tail because he was housed with another dragon. Things can go wrong no matter what situation your in, the only way to prevent it is to keep them seperated.

Hey you two --- I came across your discussion about the flooring. I came across a review --- shelf liner. This is great stuff -- easy to wipe, clean, replace, etc. Costs only $5 from Wal-Mart.....there's reviews on it in another section of this website.

I just bought some myself the other day. Haven't put it in yet, but I will soon. But I can see why everyone who uses it loves it.

Just thought I'd share...

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
