So my wife and I looked at how much it would coast to buy a months of crickets it came out to around 90 bucks.....that's a ton. Sure I could have gone and bought 500 for 15 but that's no fun so I spent 10 bucks on adult crickets and 3 bucks on a bag of diet. The rest I had laying around at home. I used a large plastic tote to hold them, egg cartons, paper towel roll, old container for laying eggs and left over food. Placed it all in the tub filled the old containter w dirt and let the adult crickets out. About 1hour later I had the female crickets starting to lay eggs!!! That took place for almost 3 hours. Tomorrow I am going to pull the container of dirt wet it down and cover it with clear wrap. I have a separate container to incubat them untill hatched!!!!

If anyone has any pointer for me feel free to comment!

Are you still trying to breed crickets? If so I have a method that will produce alot of crickets, spent an entire summer a few years back developing a method to breed them. I will warn you its time consuming and a major pain to deal with.

Yes I am still trying. Put my first thing of dirt under a heat lamp yesterday. I will have a second batch going under today. Not sure how long it takes to hatch. As far as a pain in the butt so far I find it easy. Every time I feed my bd I do the same w the crickets. 2-3 ti,es a day. I want to breed dubia's but my wife wont let me and the apt complex would kick me out if they found out lol. What's ur method?

In about 25-30 days you will have many babies. Just keep the substrate moist and warm, but watch out for mold.

hmmm, i find it odd that the complex would be ok with crickets but not dubia. crickets are much more of a pest. i suppose it's probably due to the stigma surrounding roaches...

haha the key phrase is "if they found out"... Stuff the roaches in a closet or something. Put them under a small table with a huge table-cloth that hangs down to the floor. Lol.

IF..they found out is right. So far our apartment has no idea what were doing.

They are pretty much anti-pets. My girlfriend and I have a total of 8 Crested Geckos, 2 Aligator Geckos, 3 Leopard Geckos, 1 Bearded Dragon, Rabbit and 2 Cats. NOT TO MENTION: Two huge 30g trash cans used to house large and small crickets (usually 500 at a time) and then recently added a Dubia Roach bin, hah.

Im pretty sure if they found out, we would be evicted and lose our security deposit. HAH

Screw them. They wanted 150$ for a cat, and an extra 15$ a month, please. What they dont know wont hurt them.

Wow, that is quite a collection of pets! My apartment is "no pets" but I think it means more like "no dogs or cats"... Though hundreds of dubia would probably not be smiled upon either. But like you said, what they don't know won't hurt them. :)

Thats what my girlfriends mom said, if any of those Dubia got out, like a male/female, and we couldn't find them, UH OH! That would be so terrible for us and then after we moved out. :puke:

My landlady probably wouldn't be happy either, but she'll never find out unless someone tells her. My hot glue gun broke and I didn't realize it in time. So I just punched a bunch of holes in the top of the tote. You can't see inside, and it just like the other totes I have laying around with various stuff. I use the same ones for toy boxes for my kids. She probably wouldn't think anything of it if she did see it. If she asks about the holes, I could always say I used it to transport one of the strays outside to a shelter. And that is if she ever comes over at all.

I'm not actually supposed to have lizards either, at least according to her. there's not anything on the lease about it. But since I've been here for years and been a perfect tenant, she covers her eyes when she passes the tank.

I will be 100% honest, I dont know anything about breeding crickets, but looks like a good set up. I do know you need a hide, and a moisture spot. Looks to me like you have both. SOOO IMO you look well on your way.. Grats 8)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
