1/4 '' of sand in crossfire????

Dagobah the lizard (1 yr old) is currently in a 40G breeder. In about a month (probably less) i'll be finishing up a 4'x2'x30'' crossfire and was thinking i'd put 1/4 inch of sand on half of the enclosure to give him more traction on the tile that will be the base of the cage. It would be on the cooler side where he likely wouldn't go poop often. Also there will be large rocks and branches, so most of the time he will be well above the sand. When he does want to run around and play I kind of wanted to give him something besides tile.

Is this a bad idea? It will be a thin layer and it will only be on one side. I don't really like the looks of alfalfa but if everyone says I shouldn't use ANY sand then i'll go with the green pellet stuff. Oh and I read somewhere that you can add soil to play sand and bake it for 30 minutes at 300 degrees. Mr. Crane would love that (just a little layer). I haven't read anyone on here doing that so any input even if harsh would be well received.

Sand does the opposite of adding traction - try running on the beach, it ain't easy A small layer of sand like that will make your tile a pretty effective ice skating rink though

I hadn't thought of that. True huh, like when you pull over too fast onto the side of a gravel road. Sandtastick makes a nice safe white sand that I'll probably end up using. So long as he doesn't eat too much of it (which i'll be eyeful of) I don't see why a little sand skating would be a bad thing...
