Regarding the allergenicity of feeder cockroaches

I'm allergic to all sorts of things (rat urine, timothy hay, cilantro, papaya, ragweed, goldenrod, pollen, cat dander, and surely others) and haven't had any issues yet with crickets or roaches. However, I wash my hands after handling them or their habitat, as I do after handling my beardie and...

    Dragon Wings and Things?

It might not be the same person you're thinking of but I found a lot of people who make cute dragon things! https://www.etsy.com/shop/PamperedBeardies https://www.etsy.com/shop/LilBestieDragon https://www.etsy.com/shop/DesertLairDragons https://www.etsy.com/shop/JDDragonDesigns...

pine beetle larvae (weevil) safe to feed?

So apparently they're safe for people to eat but I'm not sure about for beardies. They do feed off of pine trees and I'd worry about that. If you were gut-load them with something else, I'm sure a few nibbles won't cause any harm.

    On The Menu

I thought it'd be interesting to have a thread where we all post what our dragons have eaten today! I love trying new foods and I want to keep my beardie's diet varied with safe, yummy foods. Today Pancake got a salad made of bok choy, parsley, carrot, and zucchini squash. The carrots aren't a...

New here! And a picture of my beardie, Freyja

It looks like she's wearing gold eyeshadow! And it looks like she's got lilac on her back, too. She definitely lives up to her name. All she needs now is a really fancy collar for special occasions and a feather cloak.

prefer to sit on something fuzzy

Last night I had Pancake out and he kept crawling to lay on a fleece blanket instead of being content anywhere else. I told him Santa will have to bring him his own snuggly dragon-sized blanket!

    Enclosure trade off, need opinions?

The one you have now offers 6 more inches of floor space. If the UVB and heat isn't too strong at that height, I'd stay with what you've got. But.....there's nothing wrong with hoarding free tanks, either!

Anyone have live plants in their Vivs?

I'm thinking of doing some live plants so my beardie can have something to snack on. Definitely make sure whatever plants you pick are safe to be eaten! Here's what I'm thinking of growing. - Dandelions - Clover - Alfalfa sprouts - Aloe Vera - Wheat grass They're all cheap enough so if they...

Is this a good idea? (75 gallon aquarium)

Since I want the lights inside the enclosure so I can use the top, do you think 30 inches tall would be suitable? And I'm thinking of making the top hinged so changing bulbs is easier than reaching inside and probably burning myself. I could also add chain to the domes so I can adjust the height...

    Sandpaper?

I used to do something similar when I kept pet rats. I'd put a brick under their water bottle so they'd have to climb on it to reach and it kept their toenails filed down. I don't know if I'd use actual sandpaper since a brick or a rougher bit of tile would work just as well and I'd worry about...

Newly looking at getting a beardie.

Disclaimer: I am new to actually keeping a beardie but not new to reading about beardies. I would say that they become adults at 12-18 months in that that's the time they typically reach their full growth. Sexual maturity hits earlier, though, at around 8 months. Most beardies for sale, at...

Is this a good idea? (75 gallon aquarium)

I discussed things with my dad and showed him some of the great furniture-to-enclosures and he's agreed to help me after the new year (he's busy fixing two of our cars atm.) I'd rather have something better looking and more useful than a glass tank. And with the furniture idea, I can set things...

Is this a good idea? (75 gallon aquarium)

So Black Friday is coming up and my store is going to have a great deal on a 75 gallon aquarium and stand. And there's a tiny chip on the outside edge of one so I'll be able to save even more money (it's looking like it's gonna be around $200 for the kit.) But I wanna see if everyone thinks my...

    Salad portion sizes?

I'm surprised he loves his greens so much cause I hear most youngins won't touch them. I didn't even want to try them yet until I put some fake greenery in his tank and he tried to eat those, lol! His tummy is also looking really round but I shouldn't worry about him getting overweight as a...

    Salad portion sizes?

Pancake loves his salads (though I've only tried mustard greens, yellow squash, carrots, and papaya so far) and also loves his crickets. I know for crickets you should feed them as much as they'll eat in a few minutes but is there a similar rule for the salad? I fix him up a fresh batch every...

Longtime Pet Owner, First Time Beardie Owner

I decided it's time to post some updates on the little guy! A link if anyone's on Tumblr and wants to reblog it. My new dubia roach colony. I need to pick up some eggcrate from work and get them a heating pad. From someone who is totally creeped out by roaches, these guys aren’t that bad. I...

Longtime Pet Owner, First Time Beardie Owner

@criket Yeah, I call him Pumpkin Pancake cause he's got such pretty shades of orange. I hope he keeps the colors as he gets older. @Jon1034 He's just a little youngin then! Does anyone know of a growth chart so I can make sure he's growing right? I also didn't notice a cricket that had hidden...

Longtime Pet Owner, First Time Beardie Owner

I suppose my title is kind of misleading because I've cared for beardies, but never owned one until now. I go by Hails and I work at a popular American pet store chain, originally as a cashier, then a pet care associate, and now as a dog trainer. I have one dog, a ball python, a California...
