    Regarding Adenovirus

Hey Folks, Making the final preparations for getting a baby dragon and I believe this is the last thing I really need to study up on. From what I've gathered, a beardie can be a carrier for adenovirus, but still live a normal and healthy life. So with that said, if my beardie is acting...

Does the zoo med fixture have one of those plastic hoods on it? I suppose it still could. Hard to say one way or the other without knowing the weight of it. The fixture I got from Walmart weighed less than a pound so I didn't have to worry about the metal bending, it was plenty strong enough.

    uvb

Unfortunately I don't have any concrete advice for your first question but I did want to offer this nugget of info. Mounting the light inside the tank might be cheaper than you think. I got my fixture from walmart for 9 bucks, and bought a roll of plumbers strap from the hardware store for...

    Temp help?

The surface temps are what is important. Especially the basking surface temp since that is where your dragon is laying to get warm. When he's not basking, he'll be on the floor of the viv on the cool side. Get the surface temps good to go and the correct air temps will follow. A temp gun...

    Temp help?

Got my stuff in this morning and have had the lights turned on for about 4 or 5 hours now. I have a 36/18/18 exo terra and with the bulb I linked above in a 8.5 inch dimmable fixture I'm getting temps on my habba hut which I currently have set up for basking right at 105. I plan to elevate it...

which bulb to use for a aquarium

One other piece of info about the uvb tubes make sure that you mount them inside the tanks. Screens can filter out a lot of the helpful rays. You want your dragons to be able to get within about 6-8 inches of the tube.

    Daenerys! (Pic Heavy)

Where did you get the rocks that you used to create her basking spot? I would love to have something set up like that. Beautiful dragon too!

which bulb to use for a aquarium

Reptisun 10.0 UVB TUBE. Not the compact. You want to get a tube and fixture that cover at least 3/4 the length of your viv. Also, housing babies together can be dangerous, especially if they are both male. You'd be best off separating them.

    Temp help?

Are you using a regular household type bulb? You are, you can get more directional heat using something like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-EcoVantage-53-Watt-75W-PAR30L-Flood-Halogen-Light-Bulb-2-Pack-429365/203231695#.UdtM7Pl9CSo You might have to experiment with a different...

I think my enclosure is just about beardie ready. Thoughts?

I used plumbers tape/strapping that I got a roll of for like 4 bucks at the hard ware store. I double sided taped the fixture to the plumbers tape, wrapped it around the fixture, then bent it over the edge of the cage to the appropriate height. Edit: If you do end up using the plumbers tape...

I think my enclosure is just about beardie ready. Thoughts?

So, I think my viv is almost dragon ready. I do plan on making a couple of changes, that bulb isn't cutting it for the basking spot (only 45 watts, no idea what the heck I was thinking) so I'll probably slide that to the other side for light and a little bit of heat. Probably going to remove...

Question for anyone using the Lights of America fixture

So I'm in the process of getting my viv set up, finally got my UVB in today, mounted the fixture, put the tube into the fixture went to flick it on. Nothing. Stupidly, I didn't test the fixture before I recycled the old tube and threw out the diffuser. My question is, next to the switch...

Question about dusting with calcium vs calcium with d3

Ok, so there's no danger of giving him too much d3 on that schedule? I think the rep cal brand is phosphorus free but I'll double check. Thanks for the info.

Soon to be new owner, few specific questions.

I have a 24 inch tube for my 36 inch tank, I'll shift it a little toward the basking side and call it good. Thanks again for the info!

Question about dusting with calcium vs calcium with d3

Hey folks, Just getting my ducks in a row before I become the proud owner of a baby beardie. I've purchased rep-cal with D3 and I have herptivite for my vitamins. assuming the dusting schedule I found in the sticky: Up to 1.5 years - calcium 5x per week / vitamins 2x per week (one(1) dusted...

Soon to be new owner, few specific questions.

Thanks so much for this Gail. Would you say it's best to have the UVB slightly off center of the viv more toward the basking side? That's what I think I see in your pictures.

Soon to be new owner, few specific questions.

When you say probe directly under the basking light do you mean like a couple inches away from it? Or should I still be placing the probe on the basking spot itself? I wonder if something like this...
