Enclosure upgrade in the works. YAY!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I got him a 150W basking bulb and put it on the opposite end as the MVB. As you suggested, he constantly moves from one basking spot to the other. He is MUCH more active in his new home than the old one and seems very happy. Now for the pictures. It is very simple...

My Advice for all new owners purchasing Vivs

If you are even a little bit handy, that might work. My last attempt to build a simple box yielded a trapezoid. Haha

My Advice for all new owners purchasing Vivs

I hate to be the odd man out, but here it goes. While I do agree that a front opening enclosure is ideal, it is not the most cost effective way to house a beardie. It is almost impossible to find a quality front opening viv used and in good shape, and not everyone can afford a new one. I LOVE...

Enclosure upgrade in the works. YAY!!!

We thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the tank today. We then cut some tiles to line the bottom of the tank. Once we got it in the house, and warmed it up, we moved Yoda to the new enclosure. He really seems to enjoy it. As for the lighting, I set it up with a 160W MVB on either end of the...

Enclosure upgrade in the works. YAY!!!

I was surprised when arriving home the other day to find that Yoda's enclosure was missing one thing... YODA. We hunted for about 20 minutes before finding him fast asleep under the table in the hall. Since then He is constantly trying to escape his home. I have had the mesh top on it ever since...

    blowing up

They will do this to make themselves bigger so they can absorb more heat. My guy does this ALL the time. The more area their body covers, the more they can absorb. I call it pancaking.

    Crickets will bite??

My guy enjoys stalking them too, be he LOVES it when I just put his dubia in a dog bowl for him. I guess it's like "shooting fish in a barrel. I have a little, no tip, stainless stell dog bowl that I put the dubia in when feeding. This way, none go to waste by escaping and having to be trown...

I thought Spyro was 5 months old but...

25-30 small crickets is not really that unusual. My guy, Yoda, is now 210g and 15.5" and will eat 20-30 large Dubia a day plus his greens. When I give him crickets, I will get about 40 of them and he will devour them ALL in about 2 minutes. You really want to feed young dragons as many bugs as...

For those that are struggling to heat their roach bins....

I just thought I would share this, since there have been so many threads lately about heating roach bins. I was in the same boat, and could not get my roach bin above 80 degrees. I use Flexwatt heat tape on one side of my bin. It is connected to a thermostat and a dimmer. I keep the dimmer at...

    Beardie growth ok?

I know that they can grow quite fast. I had one years ago that seemed to grow bigger everyday. I would imagine that growth spurts are not uncommon, after all, it happens to us too. I just received my Dubia order today, so I am hopeful that my guy grows faster with a steady supply of nutritious...

    Beardie growth ok?

Hi all, I have not been on here in quite some time. I recently moved and got a new beardie, Yoda. I got him in late July and i estimated that he was 3 months old. This would make him about 8 months old. I have read a lot of posts that say their dragons are 400-500 grams at 10 months. Yoda is...

Possible parasites? (everything is fine now, as of mid sept)

You still need to get rid of the red light. Even a small amount of light, be it white, red, or any other color, will disrupt the sleep of you dragons. Unless your home gets below 50 degrees at night you don't need a heat source. If it does get below that, use a ceramic heat emiter. They produce...

    OMG, Hilarious!

Totally normal behavior. My guy did it all the time when he was younger. He does not do it as much now that he is a little older, but absolutely normal.

Raising healthy beardies w/ no UV light & no basking light??

Comparing chameleons to bearded dragons is in NO WAY correct or scientific. I keep both chameleons and beardies and, trust me their care requirements are VERY different. MANY chameleon owners do not use UVB, not because it is not needed, but because they tend to let them spend a good deal of...

Bearded Dragon Is acting very sluggish and sleepy!

You seem to be doing well at the moment with him. If you want to ensure that he is getting what he needs, you can also start feeding him Organic baby food, like chicken and squash. I added the powdered calcium or multivitamin to the baby food and fed it through a syringe. Just go slow so he...

    Burmation

It sounds to me like she was just warming herself up in the morning. My guy can be grumpy in the morning before he warms up. Dragons will often lay very flat and pancake themselves to absorb more heat. It is hard to say whether she is entering brumation, but I don't think so. Just give her about...

Beardie making weird noise. Video attached.

I agree. I had this happen once for me. It should stop in a short time. Just be careful when giving her meds. If you squirt the meds too fast she can aspirate again. I know it is difficult when you have a fidgity dragon, but be sure to administer the meds slowly.

    Impaction + Need Advice

My birdie has only had 2 minor impactions that caused him to not poo for about a week each time. I simply put a little acidopholiz+ and a few drops of olive oil on his greens and he pooped within a few hours each time. This may not work with a more severe impaction, but it is always worth a...

    Shenron has grown alot

He is a beautiful dragon! What size tank is he in? You can either wait for a $1 a gallon sale at Petco or Petsmart and get a 40b tank for only..... you guessed it $40. Or, if you want something larger than 40 gallons, I would check out craigslist or something like it. You can get great reptile...
