    Repti Glo..Not reptisun :(

Hi. In fact, the Repti Glo 10.0 compact has not been shown to cause eye problems. Here's a link to the 2007 report about the four UVB bulbs that have been shown to cause problems. http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor-tests.htm The problem bulbs were: -ZooMed ReptiSun 10.0 and 5.0...

    Doesn't like the hot spot

I tend to agree with you, given that he used to like the spot when it was cooler. But I'm very new to this, and know very little. Honestly, I think the best thing you can do is give your vet a call to say you're considering lowering the basking spot temps back to where they were, since the...

    Curious perching...

A few possible explanations occur to me: 1) Your hands might be colder than he is. 2) He prefers a higher perch. 3) Chests and shoulders don't move nearly as much as hands.

Questions: Black soldier fly larvae for adults

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a beer or wine fridge. The garage is about the right temperature now, but I'd have to figure something else out for the summer. Then again, if he likes them, I'm going to try my hand at raising a colony, and they want higher temps to metamorphose to adults...

    Doesn't like the hot spot

Did he used to sit on his basking spot before you raised the temps? Has the change affected his appetite and/or digestion?

Questions: Black soldier fly larvae for adults

Hi. I've had Teach, a 3-year-old male, for a little over 3 weeks. I'm currently buying 60 crickets a week. They get gut-loaded, and fed to him 3x a week, about 20 crickets at a time. Taking into account the ones that die before they get to him, he's probably actually getting to eat about 50...

Bad for him to be mad at his reflection?

Thanks! I think I will block off his view. Yeah, he had a good time exploring the family room and licking the cat's nose yesterday. I'll give him more of that, too.

How do you know when to help with shedding?

I just rub the area gently with my fingers during the bath. Sometimes it'll also come off on the towel when I take him out.

    Request to sticky a post

Hi. I'm not sure where else to put this request. There's an excellent, informative post in Enclosures that I think warrants being stickied to keep the info handy. Here it is: http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=189370 Thanks!

Zilla Desert UVB T8 Bulb and Fixture?Opnions please?

If you already have a fixture, just measure between the end slots to find out how big a bulb it takes. The ReptiSun bulb comes in a bunch of different standard lengths, so you can probably find one to fit the fixture you've got. Here's a link to info about it...

Bad for him to be mad at his reflection?

Hi. I've had Teach for just over 3 weeks. Teach is the first beardie I've had, and was kind of a surprise gift, so there's a lot I don't know. There are no other dragons in the house. He's a 3-year-old male who's getting ticked off at his own reflection. His vivarium is set up near a sunny...

How much greens for an adult?

Hi. Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I've been figuring out as I go that his appetite varies a fair bit. I'm considering going all sciencey and getting a scale to keep track of how much he eats. I'd be doing it partly to satisfy my curiosity, and partly to share the data with others. Bearded...

Your personal experiences with the ReptiGlo 10.0 fluorescent

You're welcome. I'm happy to be able to add some specifics to the discussion on the topic. I've only had Teach for 3 weeks today. Not long at all. The friend who gave him to me is a herp professional who's had a healthy beardie of her own for several years. She gave me the bulb, and presumably...

Your personal experiences with the ReptiGlo 10.0 fluorescent

Hi. Thanks for doing this. I'm using a Repti Glo 10.0, and I'm content with it. I haven't had Teach long, and initially came here looking for help when I was very worried about him. (Turned out temps were too low.) I got a lot of comments to the effect that I must change UVB bulbs, that...

How much greens for an adult?

Hi, Soulwind. I did know he can have as much salad as he wants. I was hoping to be able to give him just about that much, to minimize the amount of uneaten veggies I've got to chase down and clean out of his substrate at night. He gets a big plateful of greens in the morning. Unless he poops in...

    Health problems?

Hi. I'm glad you're going to get a better thermometer. Good going. With regard to his appetite, I'm afraid the guy at PetSmart didn't know what he was talking about. My dragon, Teach, is a 3 year old male. He gets about 20 crickets at a time, 3 times a week, and chases after them every time as...

    Health problems?

Hi. Thanks for answering all those questions. There are three things that jump right out at me as potential problems: Temperature If Phoenix's basking spot is really only 78 degrees, that's much too low. It should be between 100-115 degrees. Dragons bask on warm surfaces to get their bellies...

    Health problems?

Hi. The answers to the questions Brittani pasted in will go a long way towards helping to figure out what's going on with Phoenix. In the meantime, the basic answer to your question of whether or not you should turn his lights off at night is yes. But he might need a night-time heat source...
