I usually use ReptiSun but the cost of shipping it is insane to Canada, and no one here carries them. it's a serious pain...
I've been needing to change the light now for a while (36'' fluorescent) and my parents said they ordered one for me at a locla petstore.

I came home and turns out they got the wrong one, it's a repti glo..
I heard bad things about repti glo..but does it really make that much of a difference? Is this urgent? it's a 10.0 just like repti sun.

Not sure what i should do. I put it in the cage for now. Whatever it gives out im sure its better than the old one. She just came out of brumation.

Hi there,
For now, as long as you have a bright white basking bulb it will work. The reptiglo is not a great bulb. It doesn't put out enough UVB in the proper wavelengths, and can cause eye problems as well. The reptiglo is better than going with no UVB at all, however.
Where abouts in Canada are you?
I'm in Ontario, and Global Pets carries the ReptiSun bulbs. Also the reptile expos usually have a booth for ZooMed (the makers of ReptiSun), so you could pick one up there. If you're in Ontario, there are expos about once a month.
You can also check with your local petstores to see if they are able to order the bulb for you. Some places will, some won't.

I am in Ontario! Ottawa to be exact.

And i checked with the retail stores around me, none carry them. Reptile expos are usually pretty far form me, thus why I never could go to one. Do you order yours or what? What do you pay?

I get mine from Global Pets. I just did a search and there's 5 locations in Ottawa.
It usually costs me about 40 bucks for a bulb.
I haven't been to a reptile expo before, but I'm planning to go to the Toronto expo in May and pick up a few bulbs. I'm hoping they will be cheaper then getting them through the pet store.
Who knows, maybe the next expo will be in Ottawa. :)

Hi.

In fact, the Repti Glo 10.0 compact has not been shown to cause eye problems. Here's a link to the 2007 report about the four UVB bulbs that have been shown to cause problems. http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor-tests.htm

The problem bulbs were:
-ZooMed ReptiSun 10.0 and 5.0 (compacts)
-Big Apple Herpetological Mystic (tube)
-R-Zilla Desert 50 series (tube)

The folks who wrote the report tested the ReptiGlo 8.0, which is the older version of the ReptiGlo 10.0. It wasn't linked to any eye problems, and was described as probably being more visible to reptiles than the problem bulbs, because in addition to the UVB, it also puts out a lot more UVA, in the wavelengths they can see. What I saw in the report confirms the claims made on the wavelength chart shown on the bulb's package.

Unfortunately this is not true!!!
I myself made the mistake and bought a zoo med repti glo 10 and used it for the first few weeks we had Spikey in september 2012. She developed eye issues (she continously had her right eye closed) and was just laying around, not eating at all or just a few crickets here and there.
We switched to the repti sun once we found out what caused all the problems and she became totally active and has been eating like a pig ever since.

However I heard that there are some people out there who have been using the glo without any problems.
Try it out.but keep an eye on her eyes and wether she gets lethargic etc or not

You mean the ExoTerra ReptiGlo right? ZooMed makes the ReptiSun.
Just want to confirm.

You might also be able to find the Arcadia 12% tube in Canada. It is popular in the UK, and has just recently become available in the U.S.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
