How much greens for an adult?

So you want to know how much you should feed them. I just want to let you in on a little secret. We don't know. The vet doesn't know. The guy who writes the books doesn't really know. So much is unknown about these fabulous creatures. I have 1 dragon who eats a handful of greens every other day and another who would devour 3 bowls a day if I let her. Size does not seem to matter. They eat when they are hungry. As far as live feeders go, mine do not eat any more than they want. Sometimes that's 2 a day, sometimes it's 15. I feed them until they are not hungry anymore and try again later in the day.

Source: I have raised somewhere around 30 lizards in the past 3 years. Some with health problems, some healthy, some geckos, some dragons, etc. I've been to see 4 reptile vets thus far. I have met a herpetologist. I also own quite a few books of my own and I have run my own "experiments".

Good luck with your friend there. They are very rewarding pets. Just let him communicate to you what he needs. There is no math, this is not baking for beginners. This is herpetology, a very uncertain science. :)

There is no specific amount of food that you have/should offer to your dragon.

Look, when you are hungry, you eat a lot. When you're not hungry you eat very little or don't eat until you get hungrier. Same applies to Dragons. If they are not hungry, he will let you know by not eating or eating very little. If he is hungry he will probably eat until he feels like he is full. You just got to keep offering. Just like Lenewen said, there is so much unknown about these fabulous creatures.

Really don't trust all the info given by a book just because its a book. Even expert Herpetologists make mistakes and learn from it. Heck, I can even make a book and what I put on it doesn't necessarily is going to be the correct information and honestly I rather get all the information about dragons from this site because everyone here owns and loves their dragons as their kids/precious pets and I don't think they would give you false information about caring for your own dragon.

I am studying Herpetology right now and have read millions of books and care sheets. I have a young dragon but that doesn't mean I haven't prepared for when he reaches adulthood so if you're willing to take our opinions you are more than welcome :)

Hi.

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, I've been figuring out as I go that his appetite varies a fair bit. I'm considering going all sciencey and getting a scale to keep track of how much he eats. I'd be doing it partly to satisfy my curiosity, and partly to share the data with others. Bearded dragons are becoming a really popular pet, but they haven't been for very long, and I realize that there's still a lot unknown about them. I imagine breeders might have a better idea about how much veggies dragons eat on average, but they probably don't keep track of how much comes out of each enclosure at night, and I'm sure some of them co-house.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
