    questions on my Gecko

Mine go in their hides all the time but my hides are up higher. They very rarely go down to the ground. Mine have cork bark tubes that come out from the wall of their tanks. One is 1/2 up and the other is almost at the top. They both use them, but not all the time. They often prefer to just...

    My Tokay Experience.

I don't own any but I have met some that other people have. It seems to me that they are more aggressive in that they will attack rather than just run, but overall if they are handled regularly they should calm down. My dragon was very aggressive when I first got her but after a few months she...

What is the difference between UVB and UVA?

Actually, UVA and UVB are light not heat. They are just different parts of the spectrum. You don't need to worry about UVA, all bulbs put off UVA. UVB on the otherhand is important for duirnal reptiles, and other animals including humans, because it is involved in Vitamin D3 production which...

Insight into Obie's death last December.

Previously I blamed an infection to a wound on her tail. She was a rescue. When I brought her home she was impacted and had a section of her tail bitten off by a cage mate. Starting from that point I would suppose 4 1/2 years isn't a terrible lifespan but certainly seems to short.

What a GREAT idea-new GIANT home for 2 beardies...

Remove the plant unless its something safe/edible like dandelion greens, it could potentially be something toxic to them and I would put a screen cover over the top to prevent other animals from getting in. I have heard of hawks taking peoples reptiles, cats, dogs, racoons etc. could be a...

    2012 Incandecent Phaseout

"Many of these state efforts became moot when the federal government enacted the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 in December 2007, requiring all general-purpose light bulbs that produce 310–2600 lumens of light [27] be 30% more energy efficient (similar to current halogen lamps)...

    2012 Incandecent Phaseout

"The phase-out of incandescent light is to begin with the 100-watt bulb in 2012 and end in 2014 with the 40-watt. All light bulbs must use 25 percent to 30 percent less 2014. By 2020, bulbs must be 70 percent more efficient than they are today. " While I am a firm supporter of getting rid of...

Insight into Obie's death last December.

I uploading some pictures off my microdrive the other day and stumbled across some photos of Obie a few months before she passed. That's when I realized that we had a Christmas tree setup right near her tank. Could the pine have killed her? I know strong smelling wood like pine and cedar is...

New setups and pics of my crested geckos.

I just finished putting together our gecko setups. They were in these enclosures the whole time Ive had them, but I just finished setting up the backgrounds. I took some cork bark and cut it to make a shelf in each tank and then took a cork bark tube and cut it in half so they would each have...

    Crested Gecko, questions!

When holding crested geckos that aren't really comfortable being held. Your best idea is to let them run to your other hand and then put that hand infront and let them run or jump to that hand. Creates a gecko treadmill of sorts. After a little bit they should calm down. Unlike a beardie, you...

My Crested Geckos Lots of Photos

Rhacs are definitely fascinating reptiles and like bearded dragons, are very handleable. So in that regards they are great. They are also much easier/cheaper to care for than a beardie in that they eat a powdered based diet that is actually better for them than a natural fruit/insect diet and...

My Crested Geckos Lots of Photos

Hey guys and gals, you might remember me I was pretty active on the forum a while back. I haven't done more than poke around on here once in a while since Obie died. Currently we are keeping a pair of crested geckos. Here are some pictures of our little buggers. Julian Libby...

    Mega Ray and Crossfire

Another issue to watch out for is that the mega ray will get real hot in that size of an enclosure. I would use a 36" florescent strip with a full spectrum bulb (non-UVB) for the additional lighting (you can get these pretty inexpensively at Home Depot). You are going to want plenty of...

    green/yellowish patch under skin?

You aren't keeping those two dragons in the same enclosure are you? If so that is a ticking time bomb and you are putting your dragons well being and life at risk. At some point one of them will almost certainly get aggressive. It only takes one attack to injure or kill one of your dragons...

    Tail completly gone

I know that crested geckos will not regrow their tails but it is not a health concern. Most of them in the wild do not have tails. When they drop the tail their bodies seal off the wound in a matter of seconds and no blood loss should occur.

    RIP Obie

Obie unexpectedly died on Saturday. :( She was livelier than she had been in a long time that morning; lots of glass dancing and I was excited to see that she was active again and thought she was coming out of her brumation. Then she crawled into her hide and went to sleep. I checked up on...
