Which room is your beardie in?

Thank you all for your answers! It seems that being in the same room with a TV has not been much of an issue for many of you. I think I'll put her in the living room because that's definitely where the activity is. :-)

Which room is your beardie in?

I am curious to know where everyone keeps their beardies in the house. I've always kept Oola in the den. When I took her to my parents' for Christmas she had to stay alone in the office and she hated it. I could tell she wanted to be near the activity in the house. I am getting ready to move...

    Developed roach allergy-- darn!

I appreciate the reply. I feel for your daughter, having allergies at that young age. I do agree that allergies shouldn't be ignored! I think it'd be best to get the roaches out of here, especially since Oola hardly eats them. She loves superworms! But she has had some impaction issues, so...

    Developed roach allergy-- darn!

I tend to be a very allergic person anyway. I used to take allergy shots (4 shots a week) until I had a bad reaction and had to go to the ER. I'm allergic to dogs, cats, horses, birds, anything with any sort of dander basically. :( So when I got the roaches I prayed I wouldn't develop an...

Moose Is Here! ( update 8/19)

Oh my gosh, Moose is growing up fast! He looks so much older in his recent photos. I'm sorry he's still giving you grief with his pooping habits, but... he's worth it, right? ;) I've never had a male so I have no clue when they start head bobbing, but it sure sounds to me like he may be...

Aw thanks! I sure will keep you all updated. :)

    Oola (vet visit 9/18)

Oola has a history of having problems defecating, and that's a definite cause for hindlimb weakness. If poop forms a hard mass in the abdomen, it can put pressure on the spinal nerves the nerves coming off of the spine to the hind limbs. She's had a several-month history of straining really...

    Oola (vet visit 9/18)

All right, I modified Oola's viv to help with her hind limb weakness. Outside of the cage, she's able to run almost normally on carpet, so I wanted to give her more traction in the cage. I flipped the smooth stone tiles in her viv upside down, to have the porous, rougher side exposed. I...

Need more texture in viv flooring-- help?

Woohoo! So I had Oola out earlier today and noticed how she really FLIES on the carpet and is able to grip so much better. So I got to work. First (why didn't I think of this before???) I flipped over her current smooth tiles and found that they're much rougher on the underside. Very...

    Oola (vet visit 9/18)

Thank you, lillylizard! I hope so too. Oola has gotten more and more active every day. It was her first brumation-- I wonder if it takes them a while to get their metabolism back up to normal? She's now downing her greens every day. As for her impaction/hind limb weakness issue, I hope we...

    Oola (vet visit 9/18)

Venipuncture location depends on the species of lizard, but for beardies you draw from a tail vein. The access point is right on the midline of the underside of the tail. I haven't gotten word on her bloodwork yet. Fingers crossed that everything's ok!

Need more texture in viv flooring-- help?

Thanks! Ordinarily repticarpet would be near the low end of my list for substrate choices, but... she is struggling with tile. Thankfully she always poops in her daily bath so I shouldn't have to deal with sanitation issues. Today she took off across the carpet in my office and I realized...

Need more texture in viv flooring-- help?

I've got shelf liner but it's pretty slippery. She's having some trouble on just about everything except fabric. I'm tempted to get repticarpet or maybe something like a bathmat to help her through this healing process until her legs improve again... :(

Need more texture in viv flooring-- help?

Okay thanks, it sounds like slate does have some more traction to it. I'll check it out at the store tomorrow and see if I can get some cut to size. Thanks!

Need more texture in viv flooring-- help?

So Oola's had some hindlimb weakness from an impaction issue. She's on the mend but the weakness is lingering and she has trouble finding traction on the flooring in her viv. It's smooth stone tile. She's able to move *much* better on carpet around the house, and I think her recovery rate...

"Kiyo" Very small 5mth rescue Updated Pics

Aw he's so cute!!! I love hearing rescue stories like this. And I love the name Kiyo too. :) I think it's great for a male or female, so it'll work either way he/she turns out!

    55gal long too small?

I don't like 55 gallons for beardies, because the interior depth is only 12" and that barely gives an adult room to turn around. I think you need at least an 18" deep enclosure, and 2 feet is best.

    Oola (vet visit 9/18)

Oola came out of brumation around 9/1, and she just hasn't been herself since so I took her to a reptile specialist for evaluation. I am a vet but I am by no means a reptile specialist, so I knew we needed someone who knows their stuff. :) The recent issues with Oola: For one thing, her...

    The faces of brumation

I think it's alright to get them out once a week for a bath, but this is a necessity for hydration. I don't think it's good to disturb them during brumation other than for what's necessary. So no... i probably wouldn't try to have lengthy visits and make her bask.
