"Kiyo" Very small 5mth rescue Updated Pics

Hi I was browsing craigslist one day and saw this poor little guy looking for a home. I have had beardies in the past as well as iquanas but this little guy was said to be 5months old I was surprised at his size he is only 7inches long. I asked how they fed ect and was told he got crickets once a day and then veggies. But occasionaly they weren't able to buy crickets for him so he would go a week without any. I immediantly swooped him up and brought him home. He is adjusted well and so far eating about 50 crickets a day although I did see a slight decrease yesterday. He already looks fuller and is way more active! Loves his baths! I've had him 2 weeks just started to see a little shed this week =)

Anyhow my question besides a vet trip which is scheduled for next week is there anything else food wise I should be doing for him and will he grow to be a normal size beardie after being under nutritioned his first few months?

Also I think the new little guys needs a name I have no idea of male or female I tried to do a quick look but he/she is just too little to tell I'm going with male just because of presonality Any suggestions?

I am so glad you rescued him! I don't know the answers to your questions, but hopefully your vet will be able to answer them for you. Besides his size he looks pretty great so far, and shedding is a great sign things are going well.

I would keep feeding him a TON of crickets and dust the crickets. If the previous owner did such a crappy job feeding him i doubt they even dusted the crickets like they should. Offer him greens everyday.. He could be smaller because of the lack of nutrition but who knows. He still has a lot of time to grow. No matter what, you did a wonderful thing adopting him.

Ok. Check out 'beautiful dragons' they have an amazing color coded food chart that most of us swear by. Your baby will grow! It's very hard to say how big as even very well cared for BD's can be small. Just like people they're all a little different. I have a long adult (17 1/2inches) but she's quite light as I adopted her at one year old and she wasn't given enough protien.

What kind of names do you like?
People? Places? Gods? Common? Way out there? We all love helping with names

I'd like to suggest "Perk" I know it's a little different but it works for a boy or girl, and you can see how the little one has perked up in your care. Just an idea, I'm sure you'll gets many more :wink:

Took some new pictures of the little guy today! We decided on Kiyo, Kiyo was a Japanese waitress who, when spurned by a priest, turned herself into a dragon to seek revenge. I feel it could go either way =) here's some updated pictures of Kiyo from today.

He is 7 1/2 inches long! So hes grown about an inch and a half since I got him a month ago!

Aw he's so cute!!! I love hearing rescue stories like this. And I love the name Kiyo too. I think it's great for a male or female, so it'll work either way he/she turns out!

Looks like he is growing beautifully! Good job. New to bearded dragons but didn't take me long to fall in love. Looks like you are doing a great job....good for Kiyo. Grow baby grow!!!!

Kiyo got a new enclosure thanks to his grandpa My father in law is reptile crazy but now thats he's getting older he isn't getting any new so he donated this lizard lounge he had for Kiyo its huge and I'm going to be working on creating an awesome rock wall for him

He is doing awesome has grown another inch or so and is packing on the pounds of course by eyeball I don't have a scale where can I find one cheap?

Kiyo! Awwwww... what a cutie! You can really tell a big difference from the first photos and these last ones! He looks so much healthier and happier. I really like the new home...tell your father-in-law Hemi needs one too I am so glad you rescued this baby, I think you are doing a great thing. I don't see a UVB bulb in there...what kind are you using? Keep up the great work, can't wait to see more pics!

Just thought I'd drop by its been awhile! Kiyo is doing great! And we have officially discovered she is a SHE! Little bit of attitude has been showing lately she loves to give me the ol black beard everytime I pick her up regardless lol most times she climbs on my hand and still black beards me :roll: She's measuring in at about 10 1/2inches now! and I'm getting lucky I have her almost completely trained to poop in the tub! I'll try to get some new pictures up soon!
