what is the best to feed BD's

No nutritional value just fat???? Those that sell butterworms claim they are high in calcium. Others claim (including some people here) that silkworms are VERY healthy for dragons. Even wax worms, which get a bad rap here, have protein and moisture in them. I'm pretty sure that any insect...

baby beardie shy of eating in front of me.

For me it was just the opposite. When I first got my beardie he would eat anything quickly and eat greens out of my hand. Now that he is older he won't eat out of my hand and rarely eats in front of me. He just stares at me instead of the food.

what is the best live food for a 7 inch bearded dragon?

50 crickets for 5 dollars three times a week? Yikes! I don't know what the exchange rate is compared to the US dollar, or how much money you make, but that would be quite expensive for crickets here in the USA. Sorry to hear that.

    B. Lateralis vs Dubia

I don't know what country you are from, or what the price difference is so that would be an individual decision for you. Lateralis are a common feeder roach and are good beardie food. Lateralis are smaller in size than dubia so you may require more of them to feed your dragon. Lateralis can...

What size dubias are correct to feed??

Also I think alot of those YouTube videos are made for shock value. The owner gives the lizard the largest possible prey just to see the results. Adult dragons can handle fairly large prey though. I gave mine a 2" hissing roach a few days ago. When I ordered them I didn't think they would be...

what is the best live food for a 7 inch bearded dragon?

Interesting that you can breed them without heat. You are the second person that has said this. I guess the the next question is would they become pests if they escaped in the house? My dragon is now adult and doesn't eat as much and certainly less meat, so I rarely buy bulk insects anymore...

what is the best live food for a 7 inch bearded dragon?

For only one bd 7" long, I would buy crickets in bulk. You could go with roaches but they are expensive to start and a heated bin is needed so I have always thought they would be too much trouble for only one dragon.

    Beardie not eating fruits

I have never given crickets dog food since I don't own a dog, but it should be OK I would think. Dogfood is designed to be a complete meal for dogs afterall.

The only worry about getting a beardie

Even when mine was young I never fed him more than 30-40 crickets per day. I would buy 250-500 crickets online at a time. I also bought superworms which live alot longer. Older dragons on Craigslist, etc. cost more than babies but they also require less live food. Like Spurlee suggested...

The white stuff you are referring to is completely normal and is healthy. Pooping everyday or every other day is good.

    Superworms?

Some breeders and very experienced keepers use superworms + bugs of some type as staple food items (fresnowhite who used to post here daily comes to mind). I have used supers as a staple + crickets and sometimes butterworms since my guy was 11" long. I fed him the small supers (about .75 inch)...

7 crickets a day is not enough??

I use the cheap incadecent bulbs for heat plus the UVB reptisun bulb in the middle. All three bulbs on my cage sell for less than $25 total. Also if you just got the dragon yesterday. it may take some time for it to get used to the new home and start eating. Don't worry about it just yet.

    Small Superworms?

Your welcome :) . They are much easier to keep than crickets, which stink and die, and cheaper than roaches. But now supers are my dragons favorite food. He won't even touch crickets, even though he used to love them when he was young.

    Small Superworms?

Yes, you are correct. I left out the "small" part too, but I assumed that was known. Get the small superworms and start by feeding just one or two to your BD and make sure he poops OK. I was feeding him 3/4 inch super worms. The company I used to get them from doesn't have a website anymore...

    Blue Bottle Fly Larvae (Grubco)

Intersting that nobody has jumped in here to condemn feeding a BD magots. A year ago the feeling was that since maggots eat rotting flesh, they would be not be good for a BD. I disagree and have fed my BD magots (aka spikes) with no problem. Now my BD is large enough that fly larvae are too...

    Small Superworms?

A lot of people say you shouldn't feed superworms till a bd is 17 inches long, but I started feeding superworms when my bd was 11" and had no problems.

    Activity levels

It's tough to know for sure. Have the temps in his tank changed from six months ago? Have you decreased the amount of light in his cage or the time the lights are on? Does he poop normally? Could he have some type of parasite? I have found that if I let mine out for too long he will find a...

    Behavioral Signs of Sexual Maturity?

I'm wondering the same thing. My dragon is only 11 months old but he has been standing on his rock or on top of his hide log and puffing out his beard which has become darker. He doesn't want out of the cage though. When I try to handle him he runs and today he puffed up at me. This was...

    Superworm question

Bluesoda, You can always call a superworm breeder and talk directly with them to see if they will sell you small ones. If they are raising the worms then they have all sizes. I have received small supers from reeves cricket ranch which is close to you in Bellingham. If you can't find small...
