My Arcadia tube hangs internally in the cage, just supported by the wires from its fitting - no sort of attachment. Then my basking bulb sits on top of the mesh. Not sure if that helps you out at all! I know you have to be careful of the plastic melting, but we have never had any trouble...

It really depends - if you definitely feel like it is retained shed (e.g. if he has just shed and it hasn't come off, or if you think he is coming back into shed) then you can give the shedding aid or some mineral oil - it'll just loosen the skin a bit and if it is a 'bad' shed then it should...
