Shedding? Too much UV? Too hot?

I just picked up an 8 month old yellow beardie on Monday night. I've noticed that since I've had him, he seems considerably darker (getting browner). I've also noticed that many of the scales on the top of his head look shiny towards the middle and remind me of shiny plastic. The scales down...

    What Roaches should I buy?

You certainly raise some interesting points. Think I might be sold lol. Now the only problem is that it seems nobody has them in stock or isn't shipping till after the new year - which even then I live in Michigan so I'm paying more for shipping and still taking chances with the weather...

    What Roaches should I buy?

I was initially considering going with Turks for now while the Dubia colony grows. Seems they reproduce almost too quickly though lol. Would I have thousands upon thousands of them to get rid of by the time the Dubia were ready to feed? Should I keep colonies of both maybe? Seems to be...

    What Roaches should I buy?

Hmm, that's pretty crazy about the superworms -- guess it doesn't shock me though, they just look kinda mean lol. Guess I'll be ordering some crickets....

    What Roaches should I buy?

Alright, dubias it is. Is there any better alternative to crickets or superworms in the short term though? I'm not sure I want to deal with crickets 1000 at a time or pay pet store prices, and superworms seem a bit fatty....

    What Roaches should I buy?

I just purchased an 8-month old male dragon. I'm wondering what roaches I should get to feed him. Dubias sound like the roach of choice, but with him already being 8 months old, he wouldn't be eating too many of them by the time they started breeding to the point of having a stable colony...

What does everyone think about my new enclosure and accessor

Scrap the "Reptile UVA Basking Spot Lamp : 100 Watt" in favor of a normal, everyday 100W bulb. You're just paying for the packaging and marketing. Also, with a tank that large, you might want to consider a Mercury Vapor Bulb (MVB) instead of the UVB tube. It provides much better levels of UVB...

    Venting

Found mention of it in this thread with just a quick search: http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=93538&p=730642&hilit=mvb+angle#p730642

My first bearded dragon, baby dragon.

Nice looking dragon! I'm also not sure on the licking, and it sounds like you've got advice on the sand. Something not mentioned though is that in addition to the risk of impaction, sand also harbors bacteria. It's just all around not a very good idea to have it in his tank. As for the...

    ReptiSun 10.0 Dessert Bulb, Help

The deep dome fixture linked above should do just fine. If you don't get the deep one though, the bulb will stick out and you won't be able to rest it directly on top of the enclosure. If you want an expensive controller fixture, then go for it. Personally, I'd just buy the deep dome ceramic...

can someone tell me how to wire an extension

Are you looking for a fixture or just trying to wire one? If you're trying to figure out how to wire it, just cut the end off of the extension cord and hook black to black, white to white. Use good quality wire nuts and then tape over them with electrical tape. Also, if you did something like...

I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that MVB's shouldn't be mounted at an angle... Something about it burning out sooner maybe?

    ReptiSun 10.0 Dessert Bulb, Help

By the way, there is nothing special about that "full spectrum fluorescent" tube I linked. You can get the same thing (check the model number) at Home Depot for half the price!

    ReptiSun 10.0 Dessert Bulb, Help

Those dimensions come out to around 62 gallons so an MVB bulb such as the Mega-Ray or T-rex should be fine. Don't worry about the 6ft sounding harmful -- just make sure it's positioned 12" (or slightly more) away from your dragon and you'll be good! You can verify this with a quality digital...

Adding another reptile to the family

I second the leopard gecko. Very cool looking, and pretty cheap to maintain compared to a beardie (food, lighting, tank size, etc.) -- especially if you share feeders! I don't think you'll find anything with the personality of a beardie though...
