hey!

I am looking to go away for a longer period of time and I wanted to take my two year old beardie with me. In the two years I have had her I have gone away several times leaving her either with a friend or at my place with someone to check on her. In every instance I come home to her acting a bit off and the last time she was sick when I returned. :(

So this time I want to take her with me. Any advice on how I can fly with my little girl?

I've never flown with any type of pet but i did find some info on it.

"General Pet Travel Rules

The Federal Aviation Administration does not explicitly forbid reptile air travel. Rather, the FAA sets out several pet-specific policies and leaves the rest to the individual airlines. If an airline permits a reptile on board, the FAA stipulates that it must be stowed in a cage that is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. In addition, the pet must remain in stowed cage throughout the duration of the flight and the carrier must be stowed before the last passenger door closes.

Finding a Reptile-Friendly Airline

To determine if your preferred airline allows reptiles on board, visit the airline's website, which often contains a pet policy section, or contact the airline's reservation line. Several private websites, such as PetTravel.com and PetAir.com, also provide key information for pet-laden travelers. Keep in mind that policies change quickly in the world of air travel. Check the date on the airline's website or obtain the airline's pet policy in writing before booking your flight.

Airline-Specific Guidelines

Depending on the airline and the type of reptile you are traveling with, you may need to follow some pretty strict policies. Examples include, but are not limited to, the requirement of a health certificate from your veterinarian, the guarantee that your pet is odorless and inoffensive to others -- make sure to change that cage liner before your board the plane -- and a limit on the total number of pets in the cabin.
