5 month female dragon. 235 grams. Treated for pinworms, coccidia, and spirochetes. Fecal came back negative for all of the above. Been giving bene bac during and after medication. Dragon hasn't eaten in five days. Appetite has been declining for two weeks. Today vet drew blood, took x rays, ultrasound of ovaries. Blood work showed elevated protein and calcium levels. Testing for adenovirus underway. Any ideas or similar experiences? Vet has reviewed my set up and feeding routine and approves. FYI cool end is 82 to 85 degrees, basking spot 106 to 110. New reptisun 10.0 florescent tube. I am syringe feeding carnivore care. Too young to brumate but she is falling asleep earlier even with lights on and closing her eyes during the day. Thanks

Hi there....good job providing all the info. What meds. was she on , when did she start them and when did she finish....just checking to see if the loss of appetite coincided with her starting on the meds. Those can knock out a beardie's appetite.

How much C.Care is she eating, and what is her length ? Also, some lethargy can be attributed to being on the unpleasant meds. + going through blood tests, etc....stressful for her so that would contribute to tiredness.

I'll try to make this xoncise. Hatch date 5.31.15. Purchased labor day weekend. 9.22.15 visit to local vet for fecal. Spirochetes and coccidia found. Flagyl prescribed for spirochetes dose every third day for 2 1/2 weeks. Lizard started closing eyes while basking during this time but appetite was still good. October 10 exotic vet visit. Another fecal run. Spirochetes gone but coccidia level still too high and pinworms found. Vet gave a dewormer and 5 day dose of Baycox. Appetite starts to decline but still eating every day. Continued sleepy look. Last dose of Baycox given October 14. Bene bac probiotics given since September 23. October 24 follow up visit with exotic vet....x-ray to make sure lungs okay from my syringe feeding and to rule out metabolic bone disease, sonogram of ovaries to see if lizard was starting to have egg problems, blood work just to see what else could be going on. I started carnivore care Wednesday, October 21. Giving 1 rounded teaspoon mixed with water or baby food squash. The vet thinks she is trying to brumate but that this was unusual for a 5 month dragon. She is going to consult with a colleague. Will have Tha adenovirus test back next week. She said if it's positive she will give me a antibiotic. Oct 10 she weighed 216 grams. October 24 she weighed 235 grams. I'm guessing the weight increase is from the bene bac mixture. It had some calories in it. Sorry for length. I was just curious if anybody else had a deagon this young ting to brumate. Her fecal today was negative for parasites. Still confused about the meaning of high calcium level and protein level in blood. She said they were borderline high readings on one machine and normal range on another machine reading. Thanks

It's most likely all related to her being on the meds. Just give her some time + she will probably bounce back....antibiotics are hard on us creatures, can cause nausea and loss of appetite. The fact that she's gained weight is a good sign, the Carnivore Care is a high calorie supplement so that helped her out. :)

Again, just give her time to get over her ordeal, hopefully she's negative for adeno and will start to eat soon....she is actually eating, just hasn't gotten her natural appetite back yet.

Hello,

We have had a 6 month old male brumate & he was perfectly fine after he came out, too.
Just how elevated were the protein levels & calcium levels? They didn't see any follicles developing either?
The Critical care is high in protein so that could have increased her levels, or did she start the supplement after her blood test? It is great news that she is eating on her own. You can gradually decrease her critical care feedings to allow her natural appetite to come back.
The medications are pretty hard on their systems, that is for sure. Are you keeping her tank around 80 overnight right now to help boost her immune system out?
Definitely let us know how the adeno test turns out, too.

She started carnivore care three days prior to blood test. She last ate on her own Monday and I started the carnivore care on Wednesday. I noticed that she did eat 3 or 4 roaches yesterday evening after vet visit. I think the vet did see some beginnings of follicle development but nothing to indicate this was why she was not eating and sleepy. It was the calcium level that prompted the ultrasound to look at the ovaries. Calcium was 15.5; TP was 5.7. I've got her ceramic heat emitter on at night. It's mid 70s to upper 70s at night in her enclosure. Thanks.

I'm sorry that you've received the bad news. :( That explains alot....just take care of her the best you can. There is another member here that has an adeno pos. beardie that's doing quite well. I can't remember who it is but I think they post in the beardie tales + infectious disease sub forums. Drache613 may have some good tips for you as well, send her a p.m. Best wishes to you + Daisy, some dragons don't fare too badly with it.

Thanks. In the back of my mind I had a feeling the test was going to be positive. I thought I did the right thing by buying from a breeder instead of a pet store. I knew adenovirus was prevalent in dragons but I assumed the breeder screened for it. Upon further research it turns out a lot of breeders don't. Such is life. Thanks for your kind reply.

Hello,

Just thought I would weigh back in on your thread. I am sorry Daisy is positive for Adeno, but you are being proactive so hopefully you can get her immune system boosted quite a bit.
It sounds like she is doing a lot better too, which is terrific. At least she is eating & hasn't completely lost her appetite.
Unfortunately, most breeders don't think it is cost effective to test.

Daisy goes for her six month follow-up visit and fecal check on April 16, 2016. She hasn't eaten roaches in a while but I am going to try again. She eats canned grasshoppers, canned crickets, hornworms and silkworms and a dark leafy salad mix with squash, zucchini, carrots and bell pepper. Fruit is given maybe twice a month.

She spends a lot of time under her branch but will still bask from time to time.

Just wondering : how long is her day cycle per day ? If it's only about 12hrs she may well think it's winter and be wanting to brumate, she really needs a day cycle about 15-16 per day to simulate daylight hours in tropical central Australia in SUMMER to boost her basking (times , more time under the UV light to get more UVA and UVB). More exposure to UVA will boost her appetite and activity.

Also adreno virus , why would a vet give an antibiotic to treat it ? Is he going to give an ANTIVIRAL ?
Is my understanding antibiotics (which are made to fight bacteria) are useless against viruses.
Giving antibiotics will play havoc with her gut flora , putting her even more off her food.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
