Well, being Abu, she probably wont be impressed at me when I start with the saline, but, I really have to try to help her. Her lights have just gone on so she will need another hour or two before I can really tell whether she is feeling any better yet. Im going to look for a regular household bulb as soon as the shops open here - hopefully I will be able to find one in a high enough wattage to keep her temps at a good level.

Try to get some oral fluids such as water & pedialyte into her to help replace electrolytes for her.
Poor Abu, she hates it when I try to make her drink water.... but I will keep trying. I have some reptoboost in the 'beardie medicine box' so I will try putting that in her water.

I have a T-Rex in Sabrina's tank and she has never had any eye issues at all. It's a 100 watt and is at a distance of 15" to get a temp of 105.
Just out of interest is the T-rex roughly the same shape as the mega-ray???? I did notice with the powersun it was more like the regular reptile bulbs and was much longer than the mega-ray. The light coming from it, also, didnt seem to be as 'focused' as the mega-ray and spread across the entire tank (if you know what I mean).

Thanks again guys. I will switch the bulb and start with the saline and give you all a little update later!

Well her eyes are still closed for the most part. Her right eye seems worse than the left eye today. But she is opening them to look around and is a little more mobile today. She allowed me to rinse her eyes with the saline and has been doing quite a bit of eye bulging and trying to scratch her right eye a little. But for the most part she does seem a little better - she even tried to get up to her basking spot a few minutes ago!

Hopefuly she will continue to improve quickly.

Thanks again

T

She has been scratching and rubbing her eye more today. I seems like maybe its part of her shedding. Her back has been shedding for the last three days now. My other dragon would shed each of her parts in a day, very quick. I put in a different powersun bulb and raised it a bit.13-14 inches to see if that would help. I have an exo terra solar glo coming in the mail should be here tomorrow. I have my other dragon under one and she is fine with it.

Hello,

Well, that is some good news that Abu is at least up & around now & starting to bask a little bit. Maybe her eyes will shed & start to feel better soon. So she is starting to keep them open more now? That is great to hear. How is her appetite doing?

Miss Abu went to bed around 3 hours ago. Shes still not fantastic but definitely much better than yesterday. Her eyes were open, I would say, around 20% of her time awake today... they do look a little painful tho when she first opens them and she seems to blink a lot. We did watch her a lot today and she managed a few open eye periods of about 2 mins.

She is responding to the fact that we are around her - whether it be opening her eye for a second or just turning her head towards the sound - and even managed to find her way to her salad to have a few mouthfuls (oddly as Abu isnt the biggest salad lover!!)

She was a lot more bright and lively today overall.... but she did seem to keep tiring herself out - she was so determined to 'see' and to make her way around the place (in a very wobbley fashion - one eye open and the other closed) that she would rest quite a bit inbetween her wanderings! It was heart breaking to watch her at some points throughout the day tho.

She had several collisions with the wall, a number of instances of being stuck in some awful positions and it was a big struggle to feed her - she would open her eyes to take the locusts, then her eyes would close as she tried to 'focus' on it so she kept missing :( She managed to get a total of 2 locusts today and about half a dish of salad.

Once again, thank you everyone for your help and support during this time. Abu is slowly getting back to being her old self and, although I feel terrible for what I have done to my princess, I feel better knowing that her suffering may have alerted other owners to some of the problems of the powersun in its current capacity!

Tracie, what would be your thought on using Turtle Eye Drops on Abu? http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=276 Or do you think it would be best for her to continue to use just the saline drops?

About your question regarding the similarities of the T-Rex and Megaray, I have never used a Megaray but in these pictures, they look very similar in shape

The PowerSun looks like a thicker and more rounded bulb

I do feel that the T-Rex gives off a nice focused light rather than spreading throughout the whole tank. I know Sabrina loves her T-Rex.

That's great that Abu seems a little better, is opening her eyes a little, ate some greens and a few locusts and seems to be able to move around a little more. I hope she can continue to do better daily. We all know how worried you are. :(

Today, shes been doing much better.... I was at work all day but my mother-in-law spent the day spoiling her (as usual), giving her baths, handfeeding her and rinsing her eyes with the saline. She let me know, when I got in, she opened her eyes a lot more than yesterday and for more extended periods of time - still not really for any more than a few minutes at a time, but still, better than yesterday which is the main thing :D And when I went over to speak to her, she immediately opened her eyes and turned her head towards me!!! :blob5:

I'm glad she's doing better! She's testing the water to see if the lights hurt her eyes.

Either that, or shes thinking 'If I keep my eyes closed, everyone gives me attention'!!!

Poor Kazi has been pretty down tho - I think he senses that she hasnt been too well and hes been very quiet. Even when he caught a glimpse of her yesterday afternoon, when I got him out for his little roam, he didnt bob or black beard - just pottered calmly around the room.

Hello,

Great she does look like she is slowly starting to feel a little bit better. At least her eyes are not swollen thank goodness.
Diane, yes, the turtle eye drops would be fine too, they would work just as well as regular saline solution no problem at all with that.
That is frustrating she doesn't care for drinking from a dropper or syringe! Some like it while others just don't. They are all individuals, that is for sure. :D
Has she eaten anything today for you? I hope her eyes are feeling better now, poor girl.

These pictures look just like when Semi had the powersun.
Semi was trying to open his eyes.

Semi took about a week to keep his eyes open all the time. His eyes are fine now. Hopefully, Miss Abu will be back to normal soon.

They definitely are!!! Her mouth just doesnt open at all for a drink... thankfully, tho, she loves the bath so she seems to be quite enjoying her 2 swimming sessions each day!

She managed 2 locusts and another few mouthfuls of salad. As shes a big girl, im not too worried that she is eating a little less than usual but I am glad she has a bit of an appetite.

Hi everyone,

My bearded dragon is about 7 months old. When I first got him he was super healthy, active, and chased crickets readily. He even started to eat greens! In the past few weeks however, he has become incredibly lethargic, uninterested in crickets, not touching his greens, and pooping less regularly. The past two days his poop has seemed more shriveled up and dry. He seems thinner than he used to be, but doesn't look emaciated. Once in a while he will eat a cricket, but just stare at the rest as they run by. I tried hand feeding him but he usually just looks at me like I'm nuts.

He is in a 40 breeder tank with a 100 watt powersun mvb, 24" fluorescent strip light on for 15 hours/day. Basking temp is 106. He gets a bath in luke warm water every day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I just read all of these posts about the powersun problems and switched it off right away! I only put it in a few days ago but I think that it made everything worse:( I'm going to return the bulb and get a different mvb. I know the megarays are on back order but I'm going to scout around and see what I can find. For now, I put up his old reptisun 10 because it still has a little over a month of juice in it left.....oi.....still, any suggestions on all the other stuff would be helpful. Thanks!

Wow....I'm so glad that I read this post. Puff was having the same exact problems! I am going to get myself a T-Rex. For the time being, his Reptisun 10 still has some juice in it so I turned that stupid light off IMMEDIATELY and reinstalled his old setup! I am calling Zoomed tomorrow. So disappointing because I always trusted their products.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
