Our female bearded dragon has been diagnosed with low calcium levels. She isn’t at the metabolic bone disease stage, but her last couple of clutches of eggs have been squishy rather than calcium coated. Yellow pulpy blobs.

Blood tests done in April, vet said to put her on liquid Zolcal D as well as the calcium dust we usually use. My exotics vet said calcium injections are bad news for dragons, can induce heart problems. She said liquid calcium (specifically Zolcal D) but not injections. She also said not magnesium, just calcium and D3.

I am struggling with sourcing Zolcal D. It’s been out of production for months and the manufacturers don’t reply when I ask for expected date.

Are there any GOOD alternatives? Or does anyone know where I can get Zolcal D please? I have bought it from 2 places online - both refunded me (Irish one won’t ship to England! Tortoise one wanted to substitute for calcium + magnesium liquid). Or does anyone have a part used bottle they would part with please?

ETA regularly changed UV bulbs, very varied diet, healthy appetite, daily powder coated live with Nutrobal, calci dust dish in Viv, huge viv etc. Male is fine, just female needing extra calcium... vet says liquid calcium.

Liquid calcium and good UVB lighting are probably the right move in this situation. Hopefully her calcium levels will build back up quickly. I'd include calcium rich dark leafy greens in her diet as well. This site says they have the brand you mentioned in stock https://www.vetark.co.uk/pages/Zolcal-D-liquid-calcium.aspx

Thanks. That’s the manufacturer. If you look the price is set to negative and it can’t be added to basket - it’s actually out of stock (bad website design).

She has UV and varied diet, it’s just the liquid calcium that is eluding me....

Hello,

Yes, which type/brand of UVB lighting are you using?
I would recommend looking into a T5 high output tube bulb, either by Arcadia or Reptisun.
You are in Ireland?
Poor girl, all of the egg laying has zapped her levels. Liquid calcium should help out a lot.

We have two ReptilePro 90cm 30watt 10.0UVB bulbs in the main viv. And a 75cm Arcadia 5% in her laying zone.

We tried an intense compact bulb: ExoTerra UVB 150 25watt bulb but that caused eye burn- our male dragon needed vet treatment. Stopped using that.

The calcium powder we use has B3 in it.

And thanks, Tracie, have ordered some liquid calcium from USA ?

Hello,

I am not sure what the UVB emissions are for the RepPro. Can you get the Arcadia D3 12% or
the 14% tube bulb online over there? I know those would be much better.
Yeah, those compact lights are harmful many times & will cause eye damage. I hope your male
is doing better!
Your calcium powder has D3 in it? You can use that 1-2 times per week. When using the liquid
calcium, if you want to use the liquid 3 times per week & the powder a couple of times, you
can do that.
How is your girl doing?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
