Hi everyone! I know it's been a while....Zoey has been keeping me busy around here! (She had her one year birthday on May 30...my baby isn't a baby anymore!)

Ok, so Zoey has been acting really weird. She has always been a cuddle bug and very sweet and calm for the most part. Lately she's been making weird sounds and jumping around like something is wrong. So I took her to the vet last week. She said her lungs sound good and she felt her belly (I was worried that she was about to lay eggs). I always take a stool sample when I go there. The vet called back yesterday to tell me she has, what she called, "isospora". After doing a little research, I found that this is coccidia?? Am I right?? I've read enough on here to learn that this is a nasty parasite. :( I know alot of you have had to deal with this. Where do I start?? The vet is calling in meds to the pharmacy but what else do I have to do to get rid of this? Am I right in thinking she got this from these nasty crickets?

Zoey does sleep in a "blankie" at night and I always wash them on sanitary with regular laundry detergent along with special stuff I ordered from bd.co so everything is nice and clean and...well, sanitary! (I hope, now that I know what's wrong with her.)

Every day Zoey gets her probiotics and acidopholus (sorry if I spelled it wrong). I have been keeping her CHE on at night as I knew something was wrong with her. HELP!!

I know everyone will ask...yes, her lighting is correct but I'll go over everything anyway...

She has her reptisun 10, basking spot is between 105-108 (any warmer and she moves to the other side of her viv), she's in a 40 breeder (basking bulb is a clear house bulb), she has paper towels for substrate and the UV is inside the tank. I do change her UV light every 4-5 months just to be safe. At night I use the CHE if it gets below 72 (I'm a neurotic beardie mom  ). She eats squash everyday (it's the only veggie she will eat) and crickets. I give her calcium 5 times/week, multivitamin twice a week. I give her water multiple times a day, bath every 2-3 days. She poops at least once a day (lots of urates and water), if she misses a day I put her in the bath and rub her belly until she goes. I make sure nothing I feed her is bigger than the space between her eyes. When I clean out her viv I use stuff I got from bd.co (to make sure it's disinfected correctly) and I bake her logs/branches. I do take her to the vet if she has any sign of a problem. I am fortunate to live near the best vet in our area. She is just over 400 grams (407 I believe) and is about 17-1/2-18 inches long (she's all tail!!). She has a nice belly on her, she is filling out nicely and eats well. Vet said she looks great. :) (I hope I remembered everything.)

Thank you for any advice you have to offer. :)

Tracey and Zoey

I haven't gone through coccidia but I know you should by this: http://www.beardeddragon.co/index.php?route=product/product&path=73&product_id=463. You should take everything out of her viv and either soak it in that stuff once you get it (1oz of that with 1gallon of water) or bake it if it is wood or tile. Put down only paper towels for easy cleaning and poop removal and spray down her viv every time she poos with that stuff. She can't go back into her viv for 10 minutes after you cleaned it. Hope this helps some.

On a side note, from what I understand, shouldn't use a CHE unless below 65. Too hot isn't good at night.

Thank you so much for sending me that link....that's the stuff I've been using since I got Zoey as a baby. It makes me feel so much better that I have the right stuff. :) I have like 6 bottles of it lying around. LOL (Every time I order, I get at least 1) Especially since her poop has been so stinky, I take out all the paper towels that she pooped on and use that stuff on the bottom. It gets rid of that awful smell!

I've used the CHE since she has been sick...vet's suggestion. It gets cool in the living room (where Zoey is) so if it's 72 at night, I know by morning it will be 65 or less. Vet said at night it needs to stay in the upper 80's til she's better.

Thank you so much!! It make me feel better that I have the right stuff. :))))

Ah ok. Hope it all works out. Keep us updated!

Thank you so much. :) I had no idea the pink stuff was for coccodia. It was just a fluke that I ended up with that one....I just wanted to get a cleaner that wouldn't harm her. I guess I should probably add some of this stuff when I wash her blankets. You have no idea the weight your message lifted off of my shoulders. I thought for sure I would have to buy all kinds of stuff! I guess I'll be baking her logs even more now. :-| I've had her since August and my husband still hasn't warmed to her....if he saw her stuff in the oven he would flip out. lol I have to time her viv cleaning for when he's not around. :silent:

He probably gives her all kind of loving when you aren't looking lol
I have to still warn him when she is running around the living room!!! (it's a sunken living room and she can't get up the steps)...he still calls her "it" or "that thing". lol I told him all I wanted for Mother's Day was for him to hold Zoey. Glad I didn't hold my breath...

I do catch him looking at her from the time time. Maybe by her 5th birthday.

First off, I want a ferret thank you very much  And I think they are worth every penny.

LOL!!! Zoey was SUPPOSED to be my daughter's. If it was left to her, she wouldn't have survived a week! Now she is my little one. Before she decided she HAD to have a beardie, I had no idea what they even looked like! I assumed (I have grown to hate that word) that it would be like having a hamster. Man, was I off the mark. LOL She is a full time job!! Especially now as I will be spending 18 hours a day cleaning out her viv and the kid is nowhere to be found!!!

See, my rule is, don't buy a pet for a kid if you don't plan to spend a lot of time. All kids have some kind of ADD and get bored very easily of the pets sadly which is why parents needs to be as invested if not more so. Glad you are! She is very lucky to have you!

Coccidia is very common for reptiles. They have the bacteria in their system at all times, and depending on the condition (stressful situation, illness), it may flare up to the point where it's detected. Depending on the amount present, some vets won't recommend treating with meds.

My "kid" is 19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I figured she was old enough to take care of something she "had" to have. Ugh , I'll never learn! But the thing is, I love Zoey as much as anyone else in the family. :) She is my little "Punkin" (she answers to that too. lol). :D

Zoey is a little cutie. Do you have a thread?
It's been so long since I've been here. I have a post in Beardie Tales by the title of "Zoey's tales and pics". I have TONS of pictures (she couldn't do anything for months without me taking pics of her. lol), but I forgot how to use Photobucket. :((( I have alot of pics of her since the last bunch I posted, just don't know how to get them here.

The thing I love most about this little angel is that she is a serious cuddle bug. If it wasn't for her needing UV, I would just hold her all day and that would be the way she wants it. I finally have her to the point where, when she is running around the living room (it's a big room) and I call her,, she will come running. .:D She's just precious. :)

One of my favorite pics I've taken of her since I posted the last ones, was her in the Christmas tree. lol It goes right next to her viv and as soon as I would let her out, she would jump right in it. She looked like an ornament!!!! LOL

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
