Zilla walnut substrate?

Hey all I picked up some zilla ground walnut substrate was just wondering if it was safe? I got it because I was worried about my buddy falling off his log and hurting himself, he kinda slips up sometimes. The particles seem sand like in size and slightly softer in texture, its marketed to desert loving hers like beardies and uro.

The walnut substrate is small particles but they are jagged and can cause some serious problems if ingested. I'd stick with a solid substrate and just make the climbing areas a little bit lower. If you want a softer substrate you could use loop free carpet like repti-carpet but that needs to be cleaned quite often and falls apart so it's good to have several sets on hand.

Would it benefit to build up a few layers of the carpet? I know I used some astroturf like carpet I got at lowes for my old custom ball python tank. It didn't have any loops, I wonder if stacking 4 or 5 up and maybe cutting out spaces for his food and water dishes would give me the padding I want? The only issue I can think of is I remember that turf being very thin and small strands of soft plastic bag like material sewn into rubber bottom, I'm sure it wouldn't be good if he were to ingest some of those strands

That should work, but you do want to mind the loose bits which can be ingested, especially as the carpet wears out.
