My parents got me this from pet smart for Easter and I have it all set up but no beardie yet the guy said the tank had to be up an going for 2 days before I could get a beardie. Its just basic right now humidity temp gauge (broken o believe cause te temp isnt changing from below 60 degrees) 2 lamps one for day one for night.one is A zilla day white light incandescent spot and the night one Which I don't think need cause my room stays in the low 70s at night but it is a night black heat light both bulbs are 50 watts I got the 10 gallon tank and terrarium liner. Is this good so far? I know I need a basking rock. But should I use a rock or a log for basking cause iv read that the beardies tend to burn their bellies on the rocks. And the food and water bowl. Is their anything else I need? And is this going to be good for a baby beardie? It's only going to be in the 10 gallon for a lil till I can clear out my 55 gallon fish tank and get it ready for my beardie to go into. Can I also get some ideas on what to do with my 55 gallon? Thanks for the help it means alot.

If you need to get an alternative heat source for night try a ceramic heat emitter linked to a thermostat.

I got the 10 gallon tank and terrarium liner. Is this good so far? I know I need a basking rock. But should I use a rock or a log for basking cause iv read that the beardies tend to burn their bellies on the rocks. i use natural driftwood as the basking spot. You could use a rock or wood but ensure that temps stay between 105-110F at the basking spot. You'll need a digital thermometer with a probe to keep accurate readings And the food and water bowl. A lot of beardie owners don't use a water bowl as many beardies wont drink from standing water and water bowls can raise humidity levels. To keep beardies hydrated, mist every day and give baths regularly (in warm water up to their shoulders). Beardies also get moisture from salads. Is their anything else I need? you will need a UVB tube- the reptisun 10 is the best. Ensre your beardie can get within 6 inches of itAnd is this going to be good for a baby beardie? yeah small tank is fine for a baby- they soon grow out of it though lolIt's only going to be in the 10 gallon for a lil till I can clear out my 55 gallon fish tank and get it ready for my beardie to go into. here's a pic of my set up which may help a bit

Left(ceramic heat emitter for night) Middle- UVB tube Right- basking bulb

as you can see i use driftwood for basking area and a couple of fake plants which she likes to hide under

A Repti-Sun 10.0 strip fluorescent bulb should fit in a fish tank hood but you only need the strip light part of the hood, not the whole part of the hood that would cover the fish tank. I'll see if I can post 2 pictures to show you what I mean.

This is the only part you would need:

Not this whole part that would be on a fish tank, just the center part but the center part that holds the bulb should lift right off the extra plastic in the front.

Of course, you'll have to make sure that you get the right sized bulb for the hood you already have.

Just an FYI, sometimes hoods come with a plastic or glass cover. Make sure you take that off when you get the repti-sun. It blocks UV rays.

Yes all three lights I have will hold the bulb. I'll make sure to grab one light.Should it only light half the tank or can it light the whole thing?

Can I get the light the same time as my beardie? Or should I get the light and decor first then the beardie or can I get them both at the same time?

Its probably a better idea to get your cage set up properly so you know the temps etc are sorted. Saying that i got my beardie and cage at the same time (i was new to it all and didn't realise the complexity of getting temps sorted)

The night light is completely unnecessary and will actually disturb your beardies sleeping, if additional heat is required for night use a CHE. By rocks burning their tummies they mean heat rocks(the kind you plug in), using a normal or plastic rock for a basking spot is fine though. You will definitely need to get a good UVB lamp as mentioned above and if you use the regular aquarium hood fixture for it make sure there is no glass or plastic between the lamp and your enclosure. Glass filters out more than 50% of the UVB and plastic filters out around 30% depending on the thickness. A digital temp gauge would also be a better choice, you can pick a decent one up at Wal-Mart for around $15. The dials are known to be as much as 20 degrees off.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
