Not to be a killjoy but...

the pictures of Meathead where he is glowing florescent orange are enhanced.

The last picture that you have of him is a better representation of his true color.

This picture of him...

I have done the same thing here with my hypo pastel Anubis:

no enhanced coloration:

enhanced coloration:

When you mix in the translucent gene the orange hypos become almost florescent looking.

This photo is not enhanced:

Not unless Meathead is the only florescent hypo that is out there. (doubtful)

I just see people rave about the color of this particular dragon (Meathead) when the pictures have been enhanced... I think this undue rave and praise for a hypo dragon.

Not to be a kill joy or a glory chaser. Some breeders enhance their photos too and their dragons seem florescent where the oranges and reds are enhanced. Personally I feel this kills the photo.

Just my .2s on it.

Lol don't ruin it for me

I don't know much about computers and photos etc so didnt know you could do that!

still a nice looking dragon tho. Before i found this site i thought all beardies were the same sort of colour. Had no idea about all the different morphs. All those pretty reds, oranges etc

Ooops... I just realized Meathead is not a hypo (clear nailed) dragon.

But regardless... the only way to get seemingly florescent coloration from oranges (pastels) reds etc...
is by mixing in the translucent genetics.

Thats what makes the translucent genetics so amazing IMPO.

Translucent dragons were essentially pioneered by one person: Josh Dovenbarger

He took some really weak dragons that showed this genetic morph/trait and over the course of years bred them and worked with them eventually bringing about the translucent genetic morph.

Hypo genetics and translucent genetics are polar opposites so a dragon that shows both traits is a very desirable dragon.

Its like having an albino person that is of African decent.

Doesnt happen too often... they are very hard to produce and they are typically not that healthy. Only recently have they started to produced them with healthy vibrant personalities.

A tripple morph such as my girl here: MandyMoon is a hypotranslucentleatherback a tripple morph

Her eyes are somewhere between a hypos eyes and the all black eyes of a translucent dragon. Her eyes look all black actually the flash pics up the fine details.

I think she is really a beautiful dragon and love her eyes (colors are not enhanced):

The translucent gene makes the colors appear so vibrant and robust its really cool:

Can you see how she literally glows orange?

I have and have had numerous hypos and pastels.
They do not glow a seemingly florescent color.
Not until you have the translucent morph mixed into the equation.

Dragons with that type of coloration and the translucent genes etc run 500+ as a baby.
MandyMoon I would say is about a 1500 dollar dragon or thereabouts.
Due to her size, color, vitality, and outstanding triple morph genetics.

Just to enlighten some on the higher end morphs.

I need to get some recent pictures of her Mandy Moon she is getting very big now.

Cheers for that prowler! I get SOOOOO confused with all the morphs, with all the different wording.........het for hypos, translucent blah blah blah lol

Its cleered it up abit for me, still a bit like rocket science tho lol.

But i do agree the translucent do look amazing!

Saw a nice translucent leatherback i think on bloodbankdragons was $2400 tho, wish i had some spare money, would of bought him/her straight away!!!!

Thanks for the compliments.

Im very humble about the dragons I have. I just love them though.

Marz and Raz actually were produced by Josh.

Mandy comes from Josh's trans lines also.

Here is Mandy when younger:

I masked out the background color.

Its hard to capture but she seems to have a glow to her, especially when light from behind.

This was the breeders picture of Mandy before I bought her:

hypomelanistic or hypo

Simply means lack of dark pigment. They have clear nails.

het for hypo means that they do not physically show that trait but its in there genetics.

Example of the het:

You have brown eyes. Your wife has brown eyes. You have a blue eyed baby.

How does this happen? Well either you or your wife was het for blue eyes. Maybe your wifes mom (grandma) had blue eyes but her father had brown. So your wife has the brown eyes but now your baby *like her grandmother* has blue eyes.

So a dragon that is het for something say het for trans.

He/she may not show any characteristics of the trans genes. To look at the dragon you would never know it was carrying those genes. *het*

Not until its mated with another dragon of with that gene locked away is it typically relased or comes to show out.

So if you had the brown eyes and your wife has brown eyes... if your baby has blue eyes... then you would be a het also for blue eyes also.

It takes two hets with the recessive traits... Some genes are recessive and others are dominant.

Leatherback is a codominant trait. Hypos and translucents are recessive. So both the father and mother would need to have the genes for it to show up in the offspring.

The leatherback being a codominant gene would show up when two dragons mate regardless of the other being a leatherback or not.

You couldnt have a het leatherback because its a codominant trait. It either shows up or doesnt show up.

That's where it gets confusing. haha

Do we have a Meathead hater in the house?... The pictures I have of him outside on the concrete floor were taken of him with my cell phone. I do not, nor know how to "enhance" anything. All dragons will look brighter or darker depending on what you take the picture with and where. I have many many pics of all my lizards on here and they are all different.
I have never "raved" over his coloration. He does as all dragons do get really bright in the hot sun..specially here in Florida. A few members have seen him in real life and although he is bright...no he is not that "Fluorescent" color you claim him to be.

Sorry..I had to stick up for my boy

Here is a video of him...you guys decide.

Wow, I'm honestly shocked! Prowler, I must say, I don't know why you would accuse somebody of something with NO proof, especially when it doesn't matter a bit! The pictures of Meathead are beautiful, and rather or not he really is "flourescent" (which jortiz, never to my knowledge said he was) does not affect you one bit. Everyone is raving over your dragons so why would you go and try to belittle his? That's just my .02!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
