Young beardie brumation?

Hi, I've posted about Fuego before...he is 5 months old...not eating, sleeping a lot, even when lights are on, I took him to the vet, he said to give him some real sun, I changed his light from a 5 to a 10 UVB, and more soakings in the bath, so I have been. But he is just laying in his tank, not eating or pooping, sleeping most of the time. Could he be brumating at this age? If so, what should I do as far as keeping light and heat in tank? Should I worry he is not eating?

It certainly sounds like brumation to me. What are your daylight hours and temperatures in the viv? See the care sheets at the top of the site for more help about brumation. As long as you are offering him fresh food daily and the correct conditions he should be okay, but if his condition gets worse take him to your local vet or once brumation has been ruled out.

That's a bit young for brumation but not unheard of. I'd double check lighting and temperatures first. What kind of 10.0 UVB did you upgrade to? T8? T5? How far is it from the basking area?

I have a 10.0 Reptisun compact light, a heat lamp, and a basking log that goes up to the top of his enclosure. The temp in the hottest spot is about 110, and the heat lamp is right on the screen. I keep fresh veggies and offer crickets, sometimes he will eat one from my fingers. On a nice day, he sits on the windowsill with the window open to get some sun.

The natural sunlight is great for them. If it's warm enough outside, I'd bring him out for a while each day so he can enjoy some natural direct sunlight.

How far away from the basking area is the UVB light? Is it also shining through a mesh top? The mesh reduces the output by around 35% or so and the compact bulbs don't have a very long range to begin with so it may be providing inadequate UVB levels. What are the temps on the cool side of your enclosure?

What is the size (dimensions) of your tank?
