"Yep a Dragon!"...the things my mom says to strangers.....

So today at the store, I am looking for a digital scale to purchase to weigh my beardie. While we are in the store asking someone for help, my mom says to the employee, "My daughter has a dragon and has to weigh it." This dude has been looking at my mom listening...until she said "dragon" then he proceeds to change his direction to me and gives me this WTF look. I smile and say, "Well as much as I would love to have a real dragon....but I have a lizard that is a bearded dragon." He then gives me this nod and realizes what the lizard is, but my mom (how silly moms are, and how they...at least my mom...love to chat with strangers about anything for a few minutes) she then says, "Yeah that is what I said, a real dragon. She is growing really big and has spikes on her, but they are soft spikes. And for Christmas my husband and I gave our grandsons their own microscopes, and after her dragon shed her skin I saved some so I could give it to them so they could look at it under their new microscopes. And out of all the things they looked at they really liked the skin from the dragon."

Needless to say, this poor guy stood there for about 5 minutes listening to my mom....and then when she needed to take a breath, he looked at me and let me know the digital scales are in aisle 3.

So I'm really happy I have a real live "dragon" that weighed 42 grams in October and now weighs 116 grams. (She is missing a large piece of her tail. It was nipped off as a baby before I got her, so I think she is about 4 to 5 inches shorter than what she should be)

Thanks mom for chatting it up with a stranger.....and making me jealous that I can't have a real huge dragon....

I know exactly what you mean... I was looking for a light fixture for inside my tank at home dept, it was an older guy and I'm pretty sure he won't forget that day for awhile.

How old is your "Dragon"? It's hard to believe they grow so much until you weigh/measure them, they're like human babies with the first 18 years crammed into 1!

I'm so glad I'm not alone one this!! I have two leopard geckos beside my one beardie, and she just loooves to mention her 'grand lizards'. Makes me feel awkward sometimes....

I went in today and got a new fixture for my 3' repti-sun bulb, asked the guy about it, and then he asked if I needed the bulb, I said no, my beardie has to have a certain one, and got to talking and then another guy joined in and was asking about my girl. But whats really funny I start talking about Booger people give me a funny look until I say my beardie is named Booger. Then they get it .
When I take Miss Booger out and play or give her a bath, I take her into see grandma, my mom thinks its fun.

I know the feeling. My spoiled little girl's name is Newt. Newt the bearded dragon. Then I have to explain how I came about with that name and sometimes I feel like the explanation makes people think I'm even crazier...BWAHAHAHAHA heh

Arent mom's fun? lol. My mom tells everybody about our "Dragons" and anytime I talk to my grandma she's always telling me that all her friends want to know how my "Dragons" are doing.

I offered to get Dexter down to show my parents on Wednesday, when they came across for my birthday, they were like "no thank you very much", but then, they've never been interested in lizards, and certainly never interested in anything about me, other than my children. (even when I was at home and growing up, they were never interested in anything I did, I could have been a "drugs lord", (or whatever they're called) and they'd never have known! )
