Yes, I was very relieved when I found out it wasn't fungus . The humidity around his basking spot is only 20% and on the cool side more like 40%. He lives in a reptarium so its only mesh, but even on the cool side it never gets much above 40%. We have some antibiotic cream to use topically, which seems to be keeping the skin around the sutures nice and flexible. The first few days were the worst as far as him rubbing, I think he has gotten used to it and its healing and starting feeling better. I will definitely not let him on the ground outside anymore- this was too scary!
