yellow fungus?

Im pretty sure that my little boy has yellow fungus. He has yellow/orange, soft, moist hyperkaratotic plaques on his beard and chest. He I'm not sure what else it could be but any other ideas would be appreciated. I'm mad at myself now for taking him outside (to get UVB) because he must have picked up the fungus from the grass. I am just praying that its not adenovirus, but he hasnt has health problems prior to this. He is still eating very well, but has been gaping more than usual. I'm wondering how much of an emergency this is. The fee at the UF vet hospital is $200 for off-hours emergencies. Has anyone dealt with yellow fungus before? Can I wait until Monday to start him on anti-fungal meds? I love this little guy and dont want him to get worse over the weekend. I may just try to bring him to Banfield tomorrow since it would be cheaper than $200 just for the exam.

Make sure Banfield has an exotic vet that sees reptiles.. The one at my store dose not have one. : ( So its a bit of a issue.. Can you post photos of the yellow spots? It will help other people tell you if it really is Yellow Fungus and how to treat it and stuff.

use lamisil cream until you can get him to the vet.

bump - can someone tell me if the picture looks like yellow fungus? I'm bringing him in tomorrow but it'd be good to have a list of other differentials to tell them if anyone has other ideas or can confirm that it looks like fungus. Thanks!!

Its either fungus or a skin infection of some sort. You should have the vet do a skin scraping to properly diagnose it.

Hello,

It is a possibility of fungal problems. I would definitely have them try to take a skin sample of that, so they could make sure of exactly what that is.
Let us know what the vet says.

They took a biopsy of a lesion on his beard and submitted it for a bacterial culture, fungal culture and histopathology. Interestingly, there was another beardie in the clinic who had yellow fungus on her tail and had to get the tip amputated. Her lesions looked pretty different from my boy's, but Im not sure if it presents the same way in all dragons. I am now kind of thinking is a bacterial infection. I will update again once the results are in.

He's feeling OK but he keeps rubbing at his incision and sutures. Hopefully it will stop itching within a few days.

We found out the results of the biopsy / histopathology - gram positive bacterial infection and some yeast. I have no idea how he could have gotten it- I guess just from going outside in the yard. Has anyone else had a beardie get something silmilar? The good news is that it is a superficial infection and with some clavamox he will be as good as new in about a week.

Hello,

That is excellent news it is not yellow fungus. They can pick up yeast from outdoor sources but mostly from mold spores. There is no telling what he has come into contact with outside.
What is the humidity in the tank?
I am sure that his incision area has bothered him a little bit. It should heal up well. Did the vet give you any cream to put on the area to help with healing?
How is his appetite today?
