yellow dot but not fungus?

Hello!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I have a weird situation w/my little guy that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. I took Georgie, my five-and-a-half month old beardie, to the vet today because I started worrying that he might have the dreaded yellow fungus. When I first got him, I noticed that he had this weird, *bright* yellow dot on his chest that seriously looked like someone had poked him with a highlighter. I asked the guy from whom I bought G what the deal was and he said he had no idea--he got Georgie in a reptile swap and G came with the mark. I didn't really worry too much about--I figured he'd lose it in a shed. Well, fast forward to this week; G did a full body shed (his second since I've had him) and afterward the spot on his chest looked 1) a little darker (more of a mustard yellow than a neon yellow) and 2) perhaps a little bigger (or maybe just the edges are a little less defined now?). I started to get freaked out and took him to the vet. My regular vet is on maternity leave, but the substitute vet is also experienced with herps and she said she had no idea what it was. She noted that it wasn't crusty or particularly fungal-looking; there appears to be no damage at all to scales at the site of discoloration. They looked perfectly fine--not spongy or anything, just yellow. She said that it might be simply some kind of weird birthmark, kinda like the beardie equivalent of a port-wine stain. She measured it for his health record, advised me to keep an eye on it and immediately come in if anything changes, and sent us on our way. So, has anyone heard of anything like this? The vet didn't want to biopsy what appears to be healthy tissue, which I agree with, but I'm still kinda freaked out here. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Here are pictures. This is my first time posting, so apologies if I screw up the links. Also, sorry the close-up isn't so great; I had a really hard time getting the camera to focus on such a small area.

honestly i dont know but since no one has answers i figured id throw in my thoughts. i have been doing alot of reasearch on yellow fungus cuz latley Caesar has been getting more yellow everywhere and it just so happen to be while im treating for pinworms and panacur will reduce the good bacteria in a beardie so i was freaked. (its just his natural coloring which is awesome cuz it looks AMAZING) but that to me does not appear to be yellow fungus. personally i think it is just coloration that somehow managed to get on his underbelly. i agree with the vet that it may just be some sort of a birthmark. Hopefully he stays well, do what the vet said and keep an eye on it. as long as it doesnt start to look like a fungi i wouldnt worry to much about it. maybe he got a burn from a hotrock or somthing before you got him?

I would agree, it doesn't appear to be yellow fungus. Typically YFD starts near or around the vent area. The coloration and makeup of the spot are also not right to be YFD. Perhaps your vet was on to something with the birthmark. Again though as with Doe I am not 100% as my experience in bearded dragon birth marks is lacking.

Thanks, Beardednoob and doe222! I appreciate the feedback. Why am I not surprised that my dragon is a weirdo? I was just joking to my husband that our house is like the Island of Misfit Pets. :)

LOL

Still I would keep an eye on it, just to make sure it doesn't spread, this would help you to be more sure it isn't anything to worry about. Otherwise you just have a special dragon.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
