Worst scare of my life!

I resently posted in Beardie health because my bo is not eating well. I thought I'd take him outside to get some sun and since it's evening here I went to the front porch. He has never even tried to move off of me outside before, but tonight after about 5 minutes outside he LEAPS off of me into the bush! I freaked! Started tearing thru the bush screaming for my kids to come help and the neighbor came too. I'm going thru the bush and I hear rustling in the leaves underneath so I am frantically searching everywhere and have people on all sides incase he tries running out. I was so afraid. I thought I might crush him so I'm trying to be so careful, it was awful. Then the neighbors son says "I got him" he had come out of the bush on the ground right near where he went in.... I brought him inside and he is sooo dark. I put him in the bath to warm him (it's warm here tho) and clean all the dirt off and for the first time he laid in the water and almost swam. I dried him off and put him on his basking spot... How do I know if he's ok?????? He hasn't left the basking spot and is still very dark but it's onl been about 5 minutes. My heart is still racing and I am still shaking.

Most likely he is just getting warmed up, usually after baths my beardies bask for a while. Also, beardies tend to jump off and explore when they are in new environments. I doubt something scared him, just curiosity. Its good that you caught him though because who knows what could have happened . He most likely got dark from stress and all the screaming and rustling in the bushes, once he calms down though he should get back his color. He should be fine unless he jumped off you from up really high. Just keep an eye on him and see if he is acting funny.

Thanks for the reply. He is sleeping on me and is starting to lighten back up. I think it scared us both alot. It wasn't high just pokey. I have checked everything on him and he seems ok, just stressed. Me too...

Don't worry, we all would be stressed if that happened to us. As long as there are no cuts on him then he should be fit as a whistle ( I really don't understand that saying).

I also just realized how lucky you were to have so many willing hands help you get him.

I know! I don't think I could have found him alone. Thank goodness for friends and family.

That would scare me too!! (It would scare all of us) I know how you feel though, I was taking my beardie outside once, he was on my shoulder and I turned around to lock the front door and he climbed down me and took off. Keep in mind that I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building. He took off towards the edge of the stair case and just flew off it. I flipped out, I bet the people in my building thought I'd been murdered (they weren't concerned to come out, but I bet I made a racket) Anyway i thought he'd flung himself down 2 flights, but somehow he had taken off over the edge and just climbed down the wall. So when I got to where he was, he was just hanging there. I really need a beardie leash

I have one, a leash that is, but I thought he was too small for it... Maybe I'll try it IF we ever venture out again. Thanks for sharing your story with me.
