I know I should simply wait until the morning to call my vet, but after digging for 2 weeks Crixus woke up bloated today. I gave her a long soak and she did eat, but she's been out 3 times today and just laid on my shoulder or chest the entire time everytime when she'd usually hop down and go explore like usual. When placing her back in her enclosure she's not moved at all. Is it safe to say she's prob. egg bound at this point? I never did x rays at the vet 2 weeks ago because I did provide her with a lay box and she was very alert and active.. up until today. Is there anything natural I can try at home? Her belly feels like a balloon and she has been going to the bathroom normally.

I forgot to mention that 2 times in the past 5 days there have been whitish leavings in the viv that resembles urates, but they were not tube like they always are shaped they were round and when I split them open they were a bright yellow that looked exactly like the yolk in a chicken egg.. however they were not hard at all..

You may have seen some posts recently from me asking questions about egg laying.. I took Crixus to the vet 2 weeks ago and w/o opting for x rays and explaining her activities my herp vet advised me to provide her with a lay box which she dug in until late Saturday. Yesterday she barely moved although she did eat. This morning she couldn't hold her head up in the bath which obviously scared the **** out of me.. I know she should've gone in today to the vet, but call me what you may can't pay the $300 ball park figure they gave me for xrays, visit and possible treatment to expel any eggs.. I left her alone for one hour today and she ate a lot of her salad and some supers when I came home, she was jumping up on her log and getting around OK, but I honestly have a bad feeling about the whole situation... earlier this week she passed what looked like roundish urates that were pliable, but when split in half (yes, I examined them since all my dragons urates have been tube like usually attached to poop) were yellow-orange, this happened on 2 diff. occasions,... basically has anyone ever had this happen?? I know the prognosis is not looking good for us, but does anyone have anything I could try as a last ditch effort??

I'm sorry you're having trouble with Crixus.....the behavior is strange, part of it is troublesome in that she's lethargic, but yet still eating and moving around at other times. Obviously X-rays would be the answer, the vet could determine if there are eggs in a position to be layed which could possibly be helped with a shot of Oxytocin. The fact that she's still eating is good....eggbound females probably would have no appetite and may even display a black beard because of the pain/stress.

You might try an extra warm bath, sometimes it will stimulate them to push. Hopefully she's going to be O.K

Hello,

There isn't a whole lot you can do other than keep her comfortable & monitor her colors & appetite.
Keep her around 80 in the tank overnight.
Has she been acting as if she needed to lay any eggs?
A warm bath can be helpful also, to relax her. Please let us know how she is doing.

I am baffled... this may be pure coincidence, or simply wishful thinking, but last night after the 2nd bay day for Crixus I decided to change the basking light as I had replaced it 2 weeks ago with something different than she normally would use. I thought of this as I've had her out a lot more the past two days just hanging out and noticed her eyes were alternately closing or both at times. I thought because she wasn't feeling good anyway this was why and she was "resting" them, but decided it wouldn't hurt to switch the light over and see... now today she's like different beardie, had a soak this morning, color looked good, she was alert, no slight blackening of her beard whatsoever.. I went out to get a new batch of crickets and came home to see a healthy poop, she still looked good and she ate more than she has in a long while actually hunting which usually she's a lazy eater.. don't exactly know what to think and get my hopes up that she's indeed okay, but happy she's like this today..

Hello,

So she has improved a little now?
Which basking light did you change it to previously? Did it have neodymium coating on it by any chance?
Based on your description, it sounds like the light wasn't quite bright enough for her if she closed her eyes intermittently.
Which basking light are you using now for her?
I am glad to hear she is doing better today!

I'm not sure of what I was using for the 2 weeks previously, I'd recognize it's packaging and won't ever try it again. I just use a regular household bulb that seems to do the trick as far as temp and now comparing the difference to what it looked like lit up with the other light it is completely different and now like it's always been. I know this one doesn't contain neodymium. She's totally alert today and ate like a champ earlier, she came out and sat in her fave open window on her princess towel and now basking happily back in her enclosure. Coloring is back to normal and her eye/s haven't closed once today. I thought I was losing her yesterday and now am shocked to see how normal she is today. Thank goodness!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
