We've had Beans for three weeks now and I feel like I have more questions every day! I tried searching the forum for something similar but didn't find anything, so my latest worry is, what is UP with this beard?! (and sorry, I had to laugh .. he's never puffed up his beard at me but apparently he was NOT ready for his close up this morning, )

His beard is normally a really beautiful BRIGHT orange. Is he getting ready for a shed, or is this weird beard a sign of something else? When we brought him home 3 weeks ago he was in the middle of a shed, and the vet peeled most of it off. He still has a piece lingering by his eye:

Isn't he the cutest little dignified old man! I just love him. Anyway, as a new beardie mama I don't know what to expect from the beginning stages of a shed, so don't know if that's what this is, or if its something else I need to be concerned about. The white part doesn't look dry at all and even the spikes are pure white. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hi there....what a photogenic cutie you have there ! :) That is just uneven shed, nothing to worry about. If you soak him 2-3 X a week, you can wet the beard and stroke gently with a toothbrush. It may take a while, but don't ever pull it off ! I'm not sure why your vet pulled off the shedding skin [ unless it's just a patch that's literally falling off ] but you can damage the new skin + scales by pulling it off. But anyway, this will eventually come off on it's own.

Phew, what a relief. Thanks for replying!! Yeah I found it odd that the vet pulled the skin off too. I actually just called to see if I could bring in a fecal sample and found out the vet has closed permanently. Ugh!!! She also said a coil UVB bulb was fine so maybe she was a bad choice anyway ..... thanks again for the reply :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
