Hi Guys
another less happy update
I saw Winston this morning, and considering the whole abdominal surgery thing, he didnt seem half bad
I was going to take him home tomorrow, but he started bleeding from his GI tract this afternoon
they had to open him up again to find that out that he wasnt bleeding internally
now we're just waiting to see if he bleeds again
this rollercoaster thing really sucks, let me tell you
He is intubated and we are in a holding pattern to see if his gi tract can get its **** together and stop bleeding

I hope he is getting better. How does it cost you so far? My friend have a bearded dragon and he swallowed a small piece of plastic. i heard he said it cost a lot to take him to the vet.

Winston passed away today
i dont really feel like typing so this is an obituary my mom wrote up (i live at home)

I just wanted to let you know that we lost the battle to save Stephen's pet bearded dragon Winston today. A week ago he ate a penny that was surgically removed. He seemed to be ok and was scheduled to come home today. We got a call last night that he was bleeding quite seriously from his mouth. They did barium X-rays and even brought in another bearded dragon so Winston could have a transfusion, but he just continued to deteriorate. At 415 this afternoon they could no longer hear a heartbeat. Dragons are able to stop breathing and "Hibernate" so they will wait until morning. We asked for an autopsy to help determine the cause of death but mostly to help save another dragon who might have the same issues. Stephen, Steve and I went down to see Winston and say farewell. He was such a beautiful boy. It is hard as he was really just a baby...9 months old. We thought we would have him for so much longer. So.....always remember how life flies by, take good care and enjoy each minute....

to answer your question, This cost me $1706.63, including the cost of the cremation ($284)
as far as the "hibernate" part my mom isnt as versed as we are about dragons. the Vet said that it is standard practice to wait 24 hours before a reptile is proclaimed dead so that there is no mistake, since they can hold their breath and slow their heart waaaay down. but i know hes not coming back, I held him, and i could tell

and please for the love of all things holy, clean up so there is nothing shiny and bit size for a dragon to eat, even if its just as simply a coin on the ground, pick it up

I'm sooo sorry Stephen. I know how you feel. I hurt with you in this loss. This was a freeky thing that you couldn't have forseen. I am guessing that there must be something toxic for beardies in coins. This is only the second situation like this that I remember reading. Neither one turned out good. Winston was healthy and in good shape, he should have been fine, that's why I think that there is something in coins that they can't handle.

I was really hoping he'd be fine.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it is especially hard because Winston was such a young dragon. I hope you can take comfort in all your wonderful memories of Winston and also in knowing that you provided him with the best most loving home he could of ever had.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear about Winston's passing. You certainly did all that you could for him and he gave it quite a fight too. He was a very handsome beardie who is now at Rainbow Bridge and free of all pain. You have all of our condolences, a lot of us know how hard it is losing a precious beardie.
