Hey guys, in about two weeks I'm going to be driving back home (with my baby beardie). She is healthy and happy from what I can tell, still active. Going through a face shed right now.

My question is,

I'm going to be driving from around Rochester, NY to Westchester (5 hrs), and I'm willing to say it won't be particularly warm.

I was wondering what you guys would recommend I buy ahead of time to prepare for the long trek back home. And how I would go about it. (What container to use, how to heat, etc).

PS If anyone on the way wants to watch her for 10 days lemee know LOL, my mom still doesn't know I'm bringing it back to her house yet :)

Thanks!

Todd

That's not a rough drive, she should be fine. I'd get a soccer bag or other kind of duffel and put some towels in the bottom of it for her to sit in. I'd carry some hand warmers that you can put under the towels in case you need to stop for a bit and leave her in the car but otherwise she'll be fine at normal car temps for a while. I've driven my guys up to Minneapolis in the winter and it was never much of a problem. Do you have a setup for her at home? Or are you thinking of putting together a portable setup? I'll be in Rochester for Christmas. Would love to watch her for you but I'll only be there for a few days.

Thanks. Think she would prefer it being mostly dark(mostly zipped up) so she can sleep?

And I'm taking my entire 40 gallon breeder, lights and all and putting it in the back seat of my car...gonna have to get a hand to help carry it though lol

OK good, having the same setup will make her feel more comfortable. They all react a bit differently to car rides so you'll have to test it out and see. My guys were very curious and liked to look out the window. If you're driving alone, I'd keep them in the carrier though because you don't want them getting under foot. If you drive with someone in the passenger seat they can hold her but I'd still put a leash on her. If you keep her in the tote, I'd just leave the top open if she wants to poke her head out she can but if she wants to just curl up and lay down and burrow into the towels that's easy too.

So many Rochester people, I thought I was the only one!

Car ride temps for a few hours should be no problem, a couple of hand warmers wrapped in a towel/fleece might be a good idea if you keep your car cooler. As far as what to transport in I think that's entirely your call, something as simple as a sturdy cardboard box will not do em any harm. The little "critter carriers" could work too depending on the size of your dragon. Whenever I have to take Hue anywhere I put a bunch of fleece in the bottom of one of the critter carriers and sort of up along the wall too, then throw in some more larger pieces of fleece. He makes a little snuggly nest and chills out in no time. You can get an entire yard of fleece fabric at JoannFabrics for just a few bucks typically if you don't already have any. From my experience it holds heat a bit better and is far less likely to get a nail caught than towels.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
