Wild Caught Hornworms

First, I know you shouldn't feed wild caught bugs because of the risk of exposure to pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals.

I live on family land, and I know for a fact that no chemicals have been put on this earth. We've had a garden for a few years, and of course, we've dealt with the hornworms. I studied up on the habits of hornworms. They drop their eggs under the tomato plants, and the next year, the babies hatch and eat the tomatoes. In other words, they don't travel.

So, I know, 100% that any hornworms on my tomatoes have not been exposed to any chemicals and I had almost talked myself into using them as a treat for the lizards.

Then I saw someone on here say that they contain certain toxins from eating the tomato plant.

I was wondering if anyone could document that fact?

You don't need pesticides or chemicals to develop parasites.. Unless you have a microscope or lab you can't really tell if they have some or not. Parasites are normal in nature but the beardies aren't used to any of them since they grew up in captivity.

I guess making sure to get healthy critters and then establishing your own colony is the best way. I wouldn't feed them wild stuff.

Tomato plants are indeed poisonous and any wild caught horn worms are not safe to feed your dragon.
