Wide open mouth

I am sure he is doing this because he is shedding but just want to make sure. He is sitting on his log in his basking area and stretching his body up with his mouth wide open and tongue slightly out. His face and head are shedding right now so I am guessing he is doing this to help the shed. Am I right???

They do it to expel excess heat. We sweat, they gape. Kind of similar to what dogs do when they pant.

What is your basking temperature? Make sure it's not over 110, as this can be dangerous. But he doesn't constantly do it, does he?

I have a digital therm. on the basking area and it says 100 so I do not think he is to hot. And no he does not do this often as a matter of fact I think this may be the first time I have seen him do this and the bulb is about 2 weeks old and he did not do it when it was new.
