Why have a water dish?

I have a water dish in my two vivs, but honestly don't see the point. I've never seen them drink, either from there or when bathing even. I'm pretty sure they're not dehydrated at all, so it just seems pointless. I think I'm OK to not bother with water dish, but am interested to know if this is wrong.

Cheers,

Steve.

None of my beardies have a water dish, either. Most people that I have talked to on this forum about water dishes don't have them. :D

We'll offer them as an option for them to drink from as needed. I often see babies drink from the bowls when they are being refilled, but it's usually the movement of the water that attracts them, not the plain water itself. Every so often our adults will run over to drink as well.

Again though, it seems to be the movement of the water that attracts them when they're thirsty, not so much that the water is there and just sitting there.

I don't keep water dishes with any of my 3. When I first had Sarth I kept one with him for a bit, but it always dried up really quick or got gross. If you bathe them a couple times a week that should be fine.

I keep a large shallow water dish in my tank. I see Caesar crawl in it and drink from it. Also likes to sit in it when he/she is shedding, as I've seen pieces of shedded skin in there.
If it didn't get used, I wouldn't keep it in there since I give a quick bath every night. Caesar only goes to the bathroom in the bath.... Spoiled rotten!
If they aren't using it, and you know they are getting their water from other means..."I'd" say take it out.

I have a baby beardie and he loves to get in his water dish. He will drink from it or just lay in it. I guess it just could have something to do with him being a baby. I think some are just picky though because dragons are naturally from the desert.

My beardie has one of the larger corner-shaped bowls of water that he usually just lounges in like it's a hot tub. I've never seen him drink from it, but I also mist him from time to time with a spray bottle, and then he'll lick the water off himself.

Mine doesn't drink. She won't even lick anything off her nose. I've never once seen her drink in the three years I've had her, in bath or anything. So, I don't offer her a water bowl. Just gets dirty and raises humidity.

Might have to do with genetics. These animals can go their entire lives without encountering water in the wild, so the drinking behavior isn't exactly hard-wired.

i agree, Mr Dargon will drink from his bath if the water is still running.

they should be getting the water from the vegetables and baths. some beardies have been successfully trained to drink from the dish.
other beardies like to lay in the water dish. the rest just ignore it. if your beardie doesn't use it just take it out. one less thing to clean.

i have a water lid in my tank, but Izzy lays in it and splashes the water ( i think she thinks it is funny when i complain about her making a mess) but she is one of the few that i know or have heard of that actually uses it for drinking and laying in.
I have had it in her cage since she was a little thing and she looks for it when i take it out. she will actually lay in the corner and beard me when i walk by until i put it back LOl it is pretty fun.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
