Why does everyone Say Use ZooMed UVB - What is Wrong with Ex

Why does everyone Say that you have to Use Zoo Med Repti-Sun UVB?

I know that you are supposed to stay away from the Coil Lights but I am an Exo-Terra Guy.

What is Wrong with the Tube T8 Exo Terra 10.0 UVB Bulbs?

Both Exo Terra and Zoo Med make a 10.0 UVB Bulb.

Both are the same exact Length and the same exact Watts.

So why does nobody here us Exo Terra?

You'd have to check out the test results - the uvb meter owners group in yahoo should have them. It's my understanding that the exoterra bulbs are not the same quality as the reptisun or Arcadia bulbs. You'd have to look into the latest test results and analysis.

Reptisun and Arcadia are recommended because they have consistently tested as high quality (performance and emissions) and some other bulbs have suffered from bad batches. Exoterra I think had a time where the bulbs were producing unsafe emissions.

They just don't seem to have the same quality or consistency, as Tater mentioned. ExoTerras tend to burn out much quicker, and are much less consistent from bulb to bulb. Some can have decent output while others are practically garbage straight out of the box. Having said that, they did get one of their lights very right, the metal halide SunRay. I was shocked to see the output and quality of that lamp from what is traditionally a poor brand for lighting.

I see does anybody have a Link to these Results so I can compare these and other lights for myself to see exactly how much better they are.

This is a great resource.

Unfortunately you need to join to see the files and post, I found the registration process a bit of a pain but once I got through it, no issues.
