Why did my bearded dragon turn black

Why did my bearded dragon turn black and sleep all day? I got him 3-4 weeks ago, He always eats and eats his vegies & dust the dubias and crickets with viti & calcium powder. 5 days i dust them with calcium the the 2 days with the vitamins. But today he got extremely dark and dark under belly with stress marks. I bought him pellets but the did not have baby/juvenile pellets so bought him adult ones. He did not eat none yesterday but today when i was cleaning his tank i gave him about 3-5 pellets but cut them in half he ate them but most of the time the he would split them in half when he chew them. Then he started to sleeping in the middle of the day, I'm scare because this exactly happen to my first bearded he kept sleeping all day then end up deing!


For the past days he would climb up a fake plant and sleep there, Right now he is just laying under a the hot side just laying at the bottom of the tanks. His temp was at around 90 today because i have a 100w & 75w bulb... I have the 75w on today because my house could be really cold or really hot so switch it from 100w to 75w.... The humidity is from 20-35 I control it with a digital thermometer.

Can he be impacted or temp was low? Right now i have night bulb. and is 91 degrees,


I was feeding him 1s a day for the past week due to low but feed him 20 dubias & crickets everyday and his greens. Small crickets and small dubias. If hes like that tomorrow what should i do?!


I try to feed him crickets to day at 7 pm in the afternoon and he ate like nothing he even got a little light he ate everything, He fully shed about 3-4 days ago his skin look bright but not light like bright dark.

He would poop all day with no problem but today i did not see any a fresh poop. I clean his tank every 4 days or so try to do it earlier. I have a UVB 10.0 repti glo Have it on the side of the tank he can be as close as 2 inches away from the UVB i have a 20 gallon tank glass cover the sides with paper don't handle him to often. He had stress marks for the fist week an half but then he became normal bright colors with a white belly and bearded.


I bought him when he was 7-8 inches big from head to tail now he about 10 inches. Not sure how old he is. Bought him from a local reptile store not petsmart or breeder.

If he doesn't eat tomorrow and sleeps all day should i take him to a vet?

He would turn black and puff his belly when the temp would go down but i would switch the bulb to a higher watt and he would turn back to normal. But why was he sleeping today in the day?!!

Hi there....I hope your baby will be O.K. ! Here are a few questions and suggestions. Your day temp. should about 105 on the hottest side , but the other end of the tank should be 80...there needs to be that difference so he can choose. Beardies need it to be cool at night, so the night temp. should be around 70, maybe 65 lowest and 77 highest. If your night temp. is high he can get sick + dehydrate very quickly so if you had it at 91 overnight he will not do well. Any insects + food items should be smaller than the space between his eyes or he could get impacted.....and no sand in the tank or any loose substrate like walnut or wood chips.

Is your light a long tube or a compact or coil.The compact/coil may not produce proper UVB and can burn the eyes, especially if it's too close. How are you hydrating him ? You have to give water every day, either a short, shallow soak or better yet dripping water on his snout with a spray bottle, eyedropper or feeding syringe. Have you been doing any of these ? Hopefully there's an easy answer + he'll be back in good shape.

Making a New post with pictures! Also is a long tub & the at night i put the night bulb as far as i can from the cool side He climbs on top of a fake plant at night and temp is 70-75 degrees!
