Why are dubias hanging out on the floor?

Hi all,

After about 6 months of my dubia colony, I can't figure something out. About half of them seem to hang out on the floor instead of the egg crates. I have already thinned out the males a few months ago and they have decent reproductive rates and low death rates.

But I just can't figure out why they now like hanging out on the floor. There's a good amount of frass, but not too much since I cleaned it out a few months ago.

Should I use new egg crates?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It might be because it is hotter on the floor of your cage.

Like posted above it is ether hotter or cooler. They can regulate their own body heat. Or they can be like hanging out in the frass cause it may be more hidden for them. The younger also like to eat the frass as well. Hope this helps.
