Hi all,
I’m new here and hope asking these questions is ok! If not, please feel free to let me know and I willl remove the post.
I’m at a loss as to which beardie baby that I’ve seen to purchase! I’ve found 3 that aim debating between:
1) a very friendly girl at a local reptile pet shop that I love (she’s orangey and tan) but she is listed as a leath back and is not a leatherback and the manager has not been responsive to my calls and emails requesting further details so I’m a bit concerned by that and think I could be overcharged
2) a girl on a breeder’s website who is nice and big and comes from a German giant line and her parents are a mix of bright red (dad) and citrus hypo (mom) who I’m hoping will be a gorgeous orange or red color as she ages (colors are a bit muted at 10 months old) but she’s listed as very tame and she is a large size like I mentioned wanting
3) or another gorgeous beardie that is a male from a different breeder who has extremely vibrant colors but is much younger than I am hoping to start with...and is also a male, which I’m not super keen on.
Three main questions:
1) Does breeder make a difference? They all only post positive reviews of course so not sure what else could be lurking from the buy online breeders.
2) What are the key differences between male and female beardies? We want one that’s tame, loves being social, and will also enjoy walking around with us in the house or in the backyard. Eventually we may consider breeding in the future so like the idea of getting a female first but not sure if that really matters too much in the end.
3) If we want a beardie with vibrant colors should we go with the male that has the brightest ones in the picture or do you think the female with the citrus and red parents will shed into brighter colors as she ages?
My sincerest thanks for everyone’s input!
Warmly,
Shannon
