Where to get non-colored beardies?

Hey guys.

I'm still uber-newbie to Bearded Dragons...read up on them tons in the last two years in eager anticipation of getting one, but haven't actually done it yet. I live in an area where there's only 2 petstores, and neither carry reptiles. So I started looking online at breeders, and I keep running into the same problem.

EVERYONE is doing these color-morphs. :banghead:

I don't want a yellow dragon. I don't want an orange dragon. I don't want a red dragon. My 'lizard-brain' sees the bright colors, and I kinda panic. I do it with lizards, I do it with snakes, I do it with frogs. If it's the bright flashy colors...it's dangerous. I know logically that it's not, but there's still that bone-deep instinctive reaction to it.

So I'm looking for the typical, original, beige-colored Beardies. Do ya'll know of any breeders that are reputable and breed the non-colored ones?

Thanks in advance for your patience, and I welcome all answers and advice. ^_^

Some breeders don't always get a clutch of all colors, they get normal too, they just don't advertise them as much or have pet stores they sell their normals to. Also there are Morphs like luecistic, patternless, leatherback that aren't necessarily "dangerously" colored.

Dude, the patternless are just cool!!! All pretty snowy white! <3

*is armed with new terms to re-search* Thank you, so much! ^_^ I'm hoping to maybe hit up a reptile show here in the next few months, if there's any in this area. Don't get me wrong, the colored dragons are pretty, in a way. Just...not something I'd feel 100% relaxed reaching in and grabbing, you know? *shudders* I might also message some of the breeders I really liked and see if they'll let me know if they get any normals in a clutch.

Or is that bad form? *gnaws lip*

I'm not sire why I mentioned patternless, they are pretty rare/expensive... lol

Every breeder I've called has been very helpful regardless of how crazy my questions are.

Look at snows and hypo pastels, both can be very pale, nearly white. Its very hard to find normal wild colored dragons any more.

O.O

I WANT!!!!! Melanistic? Ohh....so pretty. Really dark colors. *is uber-in love* Granted, they seem to be even rarer than the patternless...saw one on a breeder's site and it sold for over 1200, but hey. I can dream, right?

Gyuh. *clutchy fingers of wanting* Sooooo pretty.

I just like the normal wild-color, you know? They're very pretty. Gail, I'll look up those too. ^_^ Yay new terms!! \o/

The only place I know of in the area that may -possibly- sell normal colors is three hours north, at a Petco. And I've heard such horror stories, I'm kinda terrified to try it, you know? And they're always so itty-bitty there! Won't lie. Ideally I'd like a slightly older one at first, not one smaller than my pinkie. But they're adorable.

I'm not really sure that "colorless" can be guaranteed b/c you see a lot of babies that look colorless and then as they shed their colors intensify and change dramatically.. I'm also here to defend the crazy color beardies b/c my Scarlett is beautiful and she is very very very sweet and tame.. She's never once snapped at me..

check mom-n-pop pet shops. though make sure it doesnt smell like death or anything. they can sometimes have normal colred ones.
we rescued an adult, named him winston and hes normal colored. he is also not very nice, like its not fear or lack of handling. he is just straight aggresive, mostly to my friend ace. but thats just winston, most beardies i;ve met or have are as nice as can be :)

@TheWolfmanTom : Those are absolutely beautiful boys! <3 I would take 'em in a heartbeat if I could. Right now though, I'm still just looking at breeders. It'll probably be another 6 months to a year before I actually purchase one. I like to look at breeders in advance, get a feel for the types they breed, how often they breed, how quick they sell out, and how the ones they sell are doing. Some breeders say they're small-time hobby breeders, but they have a new batch to sell every month, and others, it's once or twice a year. Some sell out within a week, others still have stock to sell months later. (I've been doing this with German Shepherd breeders too, for the last 8 years. I've narrowed it down to 2 great breeders, and weeded out a BUNCH of crap breeders) They're absolutely stunning boys though.

@Slave2Scarlett: *gryns* No need to defend. The 'crazy' colored ones just aren't my cuppa tea. I know logically that they're just exactly the same as a wild-colored, but that instinct is "bright-color=danger; don't touch!". I don't want to have that gut-deep reaction that makes me flinch every time I see what will hopefully be a very dearly beloved critter, you know?

@ LaPrice: We've been looking, but there's just nothing around. We have a Complete Petmart and a Petland, and the next pet store is PetCo two hours north. :( We did have a very small one (I rescued our dwarf hamster Kamari from there...they were feeding her dog kibble! >.< ), but they shut down years ago. Got a beautiful 60 gallon breeder with a screen top for 20bucks though, when they liquidated their stuff.

well, craigslist has some sometimes, however they are usually not taken good care of and have something wrong with them. meaning many vet bills for you :/
keep trying though :)

IT doesn't look like you do, but I got one of mine from a petsmart and he's normal colour(Beautiful sandy brown with oranger and yellow on his ears only, though a little barkdust red the brown on his back) and another from an alley cat petstore. She's a pale blue/silver/purple colour with red and orange and yellow, but her colours are almost normal. You just never know what you'll find. I'm sure you can find a breeder with a normal coloured beardie somewhere! Keep looking. The petcos though aren't really the best place(petsmart=yes, depending on yours. PEtco=no, unless you find one that doesn't: Keep them on sand, deprive them of a basking spot, or feed them mealworms)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
