I have read so many sad stories about pet story dragon babies that I am thinking maybe I should change my plan.... I was planing to go to the local Petland so my son could pick out the one he wanted. Now I'm thinking that might be a bad plan..... I don't really want to order online because I want it here for his birthday and I know he would love to have some say in what little one he gets.....is there a way to find local breeders?? Or Can you share good pet story stories so I feel better about buying it there.... Please help me know what to do...thanks!!!!

I have 2 adorable and beautiful ladies that came from Petsmart. They are perfectly healthy and beautiful. I also had a boy that I decided to take in, but he was sick already and I knew it already. They did not want him so I took him. He was so close to dying, but I spoon fed him and took as best care of him as I could, and he gave me a good and meaningful 2 months and he let go. It was so sad, but I knew it was going to happen. I was thankful though that he held on and fought for 2 months. So my 2 Petsmart ladies Skeeter and Bailey are great :) and my 2 breeder babies Ryelee and Audrey are awesome as well :) I would see if there are any reptile shows in your area, or maybe google bearded dragon breeders in your area?

Sorry I cannot be much help, but good luck with whatever you do!

If you buy a petstore beardie, see if they look healthy. If they are bright and active, you'll probably be fine. If they are sick looking, sleepy, laying flat, avoid them. The biggest baby in the tank may be a good choice. Also, check here for how to properly set up. The stores will give wrong advice [ almost always ] and sell kits that are not necessary.

if his birthday is tommorow you would not have luck but all dragons are overnighted

if money is an issue the dachiu's will always have dragons for under $100 and really nice ones too

I have looked at that website before... I've just never had an animal shipped and that worries me a little. They have some great ones though so I might have to get over my shipping an animal issue.....his birthday is the first week of october.... I just like to plan really early :) I am working on setting our tank up now......decided to build a basking and hide spot so I have grout drying now!!!!

I might have to go look at how they are set up again before I decide for sure what to do. Maybe I will let him look at them at the store and then online and see what he wants.

I've had two bearded dragons shipped to me recently from two different breeders. We had a better experience with FedEx than we did with UPS (but I think that was mostly an issue with my specific UPS driver). I was honestly surprised with how well they came through the whole shipping experience. Both ate a significant number of crickets on their first day with me and the older one ate a lot of greens as well. I had expected them to be really stressed and refuse to eat. I'd say as long as the breeder uses ReptileExpress for their shipping, you don't have much to worry about.

Geico came from Petco and hes happy and healthy, growing like a weed. Just got Em this past weekend from petsmart and he.she is doing really well. Both are happy healthy babies, running around, eating well. Only real health problem were parasites in Geico and we got those cleared up and they showed up well after I got him. Em is only 4 inches long and a tiny baby but is thriving and doing so well. Hope this helps.

I just wouldn't go to Petland because they unapologetically get all their puppies from puppy mills. But I digress. It's always better to support a responsible breeder, because you know those babies have had the best possible care since hatching.

I did not know that. The one I go to doesn't carry puppies but I know they are all the same. It is the best pet store around me :( that is really sad to me and makes me want to travel futher to a pet store. We have a petco and last couple times I have been in there they act like I'm stupid......them the petsmart is so so....if you get the right person to help you they r not to bad but if you get the wrong one its better to just leave.

I talked to my husband and he told me to just go with a breeder!

Ok I have a question about this breeder.....everything I read says no sand. Why is such a large breeder using sand?? I thought sand could harm the babies?? Am I wrong??

You are completely right about sand, but when someone has a big, profitable organization that has been working for them, it could be very hard to get them to change their ways.

Perhaps you can find a breeder that is close to where you live, to make the trip all the shorter? Like I live in North Carolina, so I would order from Carolina Designer Dragons, or something like that. (I got mine at a reptile expo though)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
