What sort of UVB source are you using? Dragons often go dull and lose their colours when they aren't getting the correct levels of UVB. I'd say it's unlikely that they are shedding, simply because shedding rarely happens all at once, you'll generally see the tail, body and head dull and then shed at different times.

Like the above posters have mentioned, having the correct UVB makes all the difference in the world! Especially in younger dragons, from what I've noticed

I have used their lights before...I know if you use their lights the Mega-ray MVB is the good one to use. There were some issues around 2009 with some bulbs because of a supplier issue but I know a few years ago they had the best MVB you could buy and were highly recommended on here.

Never got any opinions on these lights. BUT I HAVE SEEN THE TEST RESULTS AND THEY ARE ALSO STRONGER UVB RAYS THAT THE REPTI 10.0. But they suck to. lol. repti 10.0 has 100uw at 8- to 10 inches. Where the mega ray reptile uv can get that at 21 inches! And you want 150 uw to 200 minimum for your basking area. Your Ideal would be 200-300 uw/cm2!
That repti 10.0 won’t ever put out even close to that! THINK ABOUT IT DO THE MATH! So at 21 inches away my light gives out what yours does at 8 inches.. Between 9 and 12 inches my reptile will get 200-300 uw/cm2. There is even a zoo model that is only for zoos, vets, dragon keepers and it gives out way more uv at like three feet. Not to nitpick, but the ReptiSun 10.0 Tube is the good one. ReptiGlo 10.0 is garbage. I noticed you only mentioned a "Repti 10.0"? Don't forget the Arcadia 12% tubes, those are really good as well. Has it occurred to you that maybe "everybody on every site is saying the same thing!" because there are proven standards in Bearded Dragon lighting?

The important thing with Bearded Dragon UVB lighting is the not the strength of the UVB, which is what you have been researching, but wavelength of the UVB rays being given off by the bulb. UVB wavelengths are 280 to 320 nm (nanometers). The wavelengths that bearded dragons need in order to make Vitamin D3 are 290 to 305 nm. No Vitamin D3 = No calcium metabolism = Unhealthy dragon = Dull colors.

So it's true that some of those lights may be stronger, but unfortunately, if they're giving off the wrong UVB wavelengths they will not be helping the dragon at all.

Ya thats what im talking about the repti 10,0 pyts out 100 the reptileuv puts out 200-300 at a further distance. Theese lights are used for zoo man, not your pet store hoby light!

You have no idea what your talking about. Nobody I know uses those junky bulbs. what i was talking about is all the sites are the same by people arguing and fighting saying there product is better, but its not better its a knock off of a good Zoologist type bulb used at ZOOs by proffessionals. Your using a hobby light, which is fine. But I care about my reptiles and want the best lights I can get. This is why I use them. They are the best out there . Wavelength (measured in nanometers) and wave quantity or strength (measured in microwatts per square centimeter) are two different wave properties altogether.

It's so true! Ugh. People these days will say anything to get consumers to buy their nonsense. :roll: And unfortunately since there aren't as many laws about what pet product companies can and can't say, a lot of the time they can just lie about their products and get away with it.

I respectfully disagree. And I'm also not a "MAn". Last time I checked, I'm a female.

Both of our dragons have been under a ReptiSun 10.0 for their entire lives (ages 2 years and 4 years), and are happy and healthy and brightly colored! I, too, have done months of research on our bearded friends, from browsing websites to talking to a small zookeeper and talking to a few exotic/reptile veterinarians.

I noticed you said your babies' UVB source isn't on for at least 12 hours. Try keeping the UVB on for the entire 12-14 hours that the basking lights are on, and see if that makes a difference. If increasing the amount of time they get their UVB doesn't work then you may want to do some additional checking into what wavelengths those bulbs are giving off. (Remember, the measurement that's in nanometers not microwatts per square centimeter is the important one ).

If your dragon has belly marks, striations or patterns on his or her belly, the dragon is stressed. Stressed out dragons turn gray. Take the set up back to square one. Look at temperatures ( how accurate your thermometer is will make a huge difference). How far off the floor is your tank? What can the dragon see? What kind of basking bulb are you using? Do you have a decorative background? There are many factors that can make a bearded dragon unhappy. It is our job as keepers to make the changes. Happy color morph beardies are bright. Unhappy dragons are gray. The good news is that I have seen a dragon turn bright as the sun instantly by changing the one thing that is making the dragon unhappy.
